MCM ranch --- keep exterior wrought iron columns or replace?

deb

Doing some work on the exterior of my 1100 sq ft ranch. I like MCM look, so keeping the wrought iron columns is fine with me. On the other hand, I am thinking of replacing them with wooden squared columns, which I think would give the house a ''cottage'' look, which I also like. The columns do not support the porch. And importantly, if I replace the columns, I need some advice on the width of the columns, which would be in proportion to the house. The front of the house measures 42 feet total, the porch area is 28 feet. Whether wrought iron or wood, the columns would be painted to match the trim, which will be re-painted a greyish taupe. Thanks Houzzers, you give the best advice!
