I like cork in drawers. Things don't slide around but not sticky like rubber. It is thin so need to handle and cut with care, but once down and cut to the right size it stays put. (i think i got mine at pottery barn) I also have the semi-clear ribbed from Ikea that is nice for pantry shelves. Lower shelves and under the sink and in the broom closet i use black rubber mat. It is used for non-slip walkways...very heavy and doesn't show dirt for the spots that get mucky. I can take it out once a year and hose it off outside or give it a good scrub. Lasts for years. Look at the object you are painting and make a quick plan. The goal would be to not brush or roll back into areas that have already started to set. These days if you are using a latex/acrylic, you will have less than a minute. Because of the fast dry times, it can be more efficient to roll out the entire door/drawer and then backbrush everything the way you like it. Generally, I will do panels first, and try not to get too much paint outside of the panels. Then you would do horizontal areas with the edges included and then vertical areas with the edges included.

I LOVE my Cushy Cupboard liners. A bit more expensive but worth it and installation is easy. Installation tip that worked well for me...line the drawers with 8 1/2 x 11 colored paper making sure the edges are flush against all four sides of the drawer. Then tape together where the paper overlaps to use as a template. Tape the template to the liner and cut with a blade using a long metal straight edge as a guide. Be sure not to cut at an angle or you'll have a beveled edge. The colored paper helps to differentiate between the white liner and paper when cutting. I did this process separately for each drawer (even within the same drawer bank) because I found there are ever so slight variances between the drawers. Perfect fit every time.

I found a few older thread discussing it. Don't mean to hi-jack the thread but I have a related question. I used several different contact liners in the past and cannot say I was thrilled with any of them. My concern is that any non-breathable liner may end up damaging the shelf/drawer surface b/c it cannot "breathe". That is why I am also interested in cork liners though regular liners are cheaper.
