The following is not addressed to you, LWO, just a general comment. I've done extensive reading last weekend at this Kitchen forum. I understand the predominant voices on Houzz ask for range and hood on kitchen perimeter. I wish I read it before I bought the house. The previous owner spent 300K and hired an architect to remodel the house. It's very difficult to change the current design without gutting it. I now know the difference between a DIY house and a professionally architected house. Every design has a reason and it's symmetry everywhere. I've talked to four builders about moving the range off the island. There's no place along the perimeter...my only option is to remodel the whole kitchen, taking down the exterior wall and relocate the windows. I can't do that because I just bought the house and I've already paid for the current kitchen. I definitely should ignore pros who enforce their ideas on homeowners. Of course it's easy to gut the whole thing and start fresh, but that's also the most expensive solution for homeowners.

@bbstx no particular brand or store. I like a cotton knit. I also like a style that is not straight but fitted through the bust. I have a couple that are stretch lace and a seam under the bust, very flattering. I believe I have found those at Belk and/or Macys. @Zalco/bring back Sophie! thank you for that link! That first one is the style I wear! I think I might order the black one with white polka dots.

Thanks all. @Buehl, we have under-cabinet lighting, which is what we use already for evening lighting. But the island is a dark spot I'd like to give soft lighting to. That's where the cheese board and cake are sitting when we're having a quiet night with friends. @cawaps thanks for that link! Linear lights have been in consideration, but that one is quite a bit better than the ones I've found. Love the color temp options and the 95CRI! How high off your island is your light? I'm wondering if it would work to have the light sit right at the level of the bottom of the beam, or just an inch or two lower. @la_la Girl--placement is one of the questions. If we do recessed lights, or those BTC flush mount lights, I'm inclined to use 3, so that we have nice light on both sides of the beam. Worried that a 9" deep beam is going to block the light from a small recessed light.
