Good quality American drawer based kitchen cabinets?
Comments (29)Don't know exactly what you mean buy "rustic modern". I assume it would be wood and not high gloss paint. As someone who has built, study and reverse engineered Euro cabinets for many years I can tell you that I know of no "major" US manufacturer who builds this type of cabinets. Henrybuilt and Downsview in Canada do a pretty good job but still not the same and neither would be inexpensive. A custom guy could, maybe, but most have never even seen one of these kitchens in person so at best you will get some interpretation of a modern kitchen which can vary greatly depending how much he's willing to go out of his way. Being in Los Angeles I have access to all the showrooms; Boffi, Poggen Pohl, Varenna, Sandario etc. I visit them regularly and have been on many job sites where theses kitchens were being installed and got to get up close and personal with them. What goes into making a kitchen like this and how much you care how close it really is is the question. When someone ask me to copy one of these kitchens I sort of get obsessed with being as exact as possible. But that's me. I use a lot of the same European components. Hardware, veneer, Italian paint or clear coat and construction methods. The other important thing is the proportions. Each line I mentioned builds theirs and little differently but they are definitely not the same look as American made cabinets. You really need to define what you like before you can make that happen which ever way you go. John...See MoreLooking for a good RTA Cabinet please help
Comments (4)Talk about advertisment BS those are J & K grand cabinets which are designed by the chinese manfacturer to be nailed together from the outside of the box. That means you are supposed to put nails thru the 1/2" plywood box on the outside where you will see them. The drawer boxes are not marked at all so you know where to install the rails so they pull out perpendicular to the floor. It is cabinet companies and stupid adds like this that give companies like IKS and JSI a bad name which are by the way easier to put together then the cabinets this idiot is trying to sell. You need a staple gun a lot of glue and some expierence to work with the cabinets this post is trying to promote. This brand has multiple warehouses around the country all competeing with each other to sell their cabinets as the company is made up of competeing investors. The door styles look nice but the cabinet construction leaves something to be desired. JSI and IKS for those who read this are much more business like are easier to deal with. J&K has no up to date literature. IKS literature is not anything to brag about either for that matter. JSI has goood literature on their products. Unfortunately you must own a kitchen and bath store to buy directly from either JSI or IKS. J & K will on the other hand sell to anyone. I have been to their location in the Miami area. There is another location in Georgia for those of you on the east coast which is better to deal with. Each warehouse has its own website. The largest warehouse is in California....See MorePlease help w/washer-dryer recs!
Comments (45)If you don’t have a problem with a door that’s less than 18 inches from the floor, more power to you Sheilaaus, but I seriously doubt most people would be willing to go that route. I’m 4’11 and had to choose between getting on my knees to reach inside (which I tested at the store) or use a foot stool to see inside the soap dispenser, I chose the later. One plus of the Electrolux is they guarantee that their machines won’t vibrate and are suited for 2nd floors. So far so good. I’m not surprised you like your Whirlpool washer though, I really liked ours and as long as I kept the door open after each wash, I never had a problem with mold or oders. The door of our older Kenmore (like the duet) was much higher than the new models we looked at. It was perfect for someone my height. At least we were fortunate in that the store we bought our Electrolux machines from threw the pedistals in for a fraction of what they usually cost. The machines are pretty on the pedistals, but I hate using a foot stool. :c)...See MoreNeed options for good quality, mid-range cabinet brands
Comments (47)@Wes Hunt I believe Shiloh does an industry-standard post-catalyzed conversion varnish, so hopefully the finish will be more durable for you than Kemp would have been. As I'm sure you're aware, there are several different levels of pricing within the lines offered by W. W. Wood Products, Inc., Shiloh's parent company. Shiloh for some reason hasn't amassed many reviews around the web at the time of this writing outside of those on Houzz, but there are several threads here at Houzz that do discuss Shiloh's offerings and warranty fulfillment in depth. One of the things I've noticed is that people who went with the less expensive lines wished they had upgraded to the top Shiloh offering, and for people who did receive defective pieces, it was sometimes an issue getting satisfactory warranty service. If you are working with a reputable sales rep, hopefully they would take care of any issues you had promptly. Plenty of people have been very pleased with their Shiloh cabinetry. The tolerances on Shiloh's inset styles aren't as tight as you'd see from more expensive brands like Christopher Peacock or Kennebec according to some reviewers familiar with a wide range of brands, but for many people who want to save and yet still want that inset look, Shiloh does just fine for them. Of course, as you're aware, inset is not the only style Shiloh offers. I hope your project goes smoothly. Thanks for allowing the Houzz community to have input into your research process....See MoreUser
