Yes, I have the perfect solution without having to use one of those mats. We got special casters that do not hurt the floor. We had a new hardwood floor in our last house (Bruce engineered oak, gluedown on concrete) and we have a new hardwood floor in this house (site-finished hand-scraped oak, naildown on plywood over concrete). In both cases the casters have not laid a single mark on the floor, and I am a big girl. Before we replaced the hardwood (long story, different issue) in our last house, the original casters on my Bradington-Young chair had done damage to the hardwood. Only drawback is that they are not brass, they are something like chrome. I figured I would have them brass plated, or do some kind of custom faux finish on them myself, but very honestly we put them on and I haven't noticed once the material. It is overpowered by the beautiful chair above it. And I'm picky. That's great you have some help. I was thinking about your office today because I am working on mine and we have a few similarities as far as size and furniture - except I don't have all the great closet space you have! I think once you have the additional furniture in there you can play with where the desk should be. The good thing is you can shuffle it around as much as you need to until you find a look that feels right. If you don't already have some, you should pick up some of those sliders that you place under furniture to help move it around - they make it really easy for one person to move things around to try various configurations. I have several sets and they have been invaluable! In some rooms, we lived with those darn sliders under our furniture for weeks as we tried, lived with, and then changed up where certain pieces of furniture went.

Ideally, I would have attached a work surface to form an "L" from the wall unit. However, your wall unit has two kneehole spaces which are designed as work stations. Why are those not being used and forgo a formal desk? I would move the printer or get a small one. I spend a LOT of time on the computer, both for work and for hobbies. I've found that with computer chairs, you often get what you pay for. I "borrowed" my chair from work when I went remote (with permission) because I love it so much and it retails for about $800. It's lasted 12+ hours a day for 4 years now and still looks brand new.
