You need height and window exposure. Swap the black curtain rod for one that matches your faucet or a bronze to coordinate with your cabinets, so the contrast is not so extreme - you don't want to emphasize the horizontal lines. Put your drapery rod on the wall above the window trim, not on it, placing it just low enough that you can either use grommet-top curtains or hang the curtains from the backs rather than tops so they will be higher (and longer overall); this will also hide the horizontal pole when they are closed. If you go with hang clips, be sure to gather the fabric adequately (you might need to buy 2 panels for each side and stitch them together); it looks like you did not fold the fabric when you attached the clips to your curtains - so they sag. Make the rod wide enough that the curtains can be pulled completely to the side, revealing every bit of glass (garden view and natural light). Hang poles - the type used for vertical blinds- , one on each of the center rings, so you can easily open and close the curtains; these might also add a needed vertical detail. Do NOT use horizontal striping in the curtains - nor oversized swirls. Consider a toile, soft floral or a leafy vine (vertical) pattern.
