anyone have Karastan synthetic area rugs?

I have three beautiful wool Karastan area rugs. I need a smaller one for a light traffic room. I don't want to spend the money for a wool one. Macy's has synthetic Karastan rugs for a good price. I know they won't be as nice or as durable but I'm interested to go see them. Anyone have experience with these? They said on the phone they only have a few - Spice Market is one pattern.

These are wonderful rugs! I sell a lot of them to my clients because of their stain-resistance and affordability. Everyone who gets them loves how soft and plush they are.

They will be perfect in an entry area. Still constructed well and will withstand water.

Yes I have seen a rug on top of that as well in several pictures. That would get rid of the grime element but the room is pretty small, i can get away with an 8'x 8' square. I am not sure that it would make sense to put a small area rug on top of something that small. I did get a rug that is jute chenille mix from pottery barn which is really pretty, the chenille adds texture and softness and so far it is not showing much grime, it is in a lower traffic area and has enough natural variance in color that dog hair is invisible! I am considering that one as well.

An update: brought my daughter with me to buy the 717 area rug (she has a truck) and she noticed something right off the bat about the rug that really bothered her regarding the quality. I was so smitten with the design and colors, that I wasn't paying attention, and didn't understand what she was saying, until the owner brought over an old small sample she was going to give me, as her store was selling off everything not handmade. Fingering the old sample, and comparing the new area finally made me realize what my daughter saw right away: there was a significant difference in quality/density, and the new rug had a cheap look that the old sample did not have. The old sample is how I remembered the rug from years ago. Needless to say, I did not buy it, and will have to rethink my plans. I have a very old american oriental rug that I thought was too dark and too large for the room I will likely use anyway (will start another thread later to ask about cleaning and repairing it) The good thing is that I could get the Karastan 717 runner for my hallway as it will probably go well - and the quality will be fine for that. Not that I'm an expert, but I really like that rug in your living room. All of the colors in the rug really accentuate the "calm" of your furniture. I don't know if I'm saying that right...but the rug is a stand out and it reminds me of a room that a designer would put together. Keeping the furniture monochromatic and then putting the one piece in that makes you say "aaaaaaaaahhhhhhh, so that's how you do it." I could sit, chat, and drink wine all night in there! I also noticed that your new little one is attached to your Bichon. So sweet. We adopted a 3 yr old German Shepherd from the pound a few years ago and she is best friends with our shep/retriever mix. Well, after an awkward alpha issue about six months in to it. That resolved fairly quickly, thank goodness. I know that he helped her assimilate into our family...after a year she finally stopped trying to jump into the back of every truck we passed!

Leah I'm guessing you looked at the pix in my link on gillianma's thread? It showed a couple of examples, and as I said, I will have more in my article on Wed, including persian rugs over sisal. Most rugs over sisal are done to either (a) achieve a look or (b) to create a "safe zone" area for spills and/or foot traffic. Personally, I would be hesistant to place a Karastan (and I love Karastans--I've praised them a lot in the past) simply because most are pretty thick and will end up looking heavy and off balance on a sisal--especially since you mention a larger (8x10) sized Karastan. Considering the excellent quality Karastans are known for, in this case you would be better served investing in the larger size.

I want it for our home office. We have green walls, wood furniture and wood floor. Need something to break up all that wood. Maybe a mostly neutral color with some green in it. Or something in a peach tone if they have it. Going to macy's next week :)

I use Karastan synthetics in high traffic rooms like kitchen, bath and laundry rooms. I also have Karastan wools - if you like one you’ll like the other. The synthetics also come in contemporary styles, show no wear after 8+ years and can be found on discount rug sites. Karastan has sold at least 6 rugs to my friends based on my experience!

a got a couple of runners in basically same pattern w/o medallion for hallway. macy's has some good sales on these. next big sale is black friday or november I think

so I love my karastan rugs....the spice market with the medallion in the office and the same pattern w/o medallion in the adjoining hallway. but the runners in the hallway are always sliding off the rug pads. I have mohawk rug pads. the one in the office is fine....feels so good to walk on. but hallway ones are always slipping. don't know if we should consider gluing or velcro-ing them to the pads?

I just ordered a 5 by 7, two 2 by 3, and a 2 by 8 runner from the Karastan Expressions Scott Living line. They are Everstrand, made from recycled bottles. We used the Karastan Kiosk to view samples, and ran our hands through similar samples. The line is lower cost than the others we looked at. We are waiting installation of the somewhat pricey Karastan LVP, and wanted to add some color to the planks, without spending a lot. On the area rugs. Our dealer requires the rugs be shipped to them for inspection, though Karastan advertises direct shipment. Our dealer is very picky. If not perfect, it goes back. Our dealer also had a selection of pads, they cut themselves. The recommendation was a very thin rubber pad. It was black, not white. The charge was $ 1.50 a square ft,, which gave a nice savings on the small rugs.

We did consider Costco for very well priced rugs. We were discouraged by too many negative reviews complaining the rugs they received smelled like dead skunks.
