We purchased a very nice wool carpet runner for our 1930s Tudor stairs. It looks marvelous and has withstood ALOT of foot traffic w/ no noticable wear showing. I enjoyed the look so much, we used a cheap olefin carpet runner down to the semi finished basement level. This also turned out great and was very easy since it was being attached to pine (painted) steps and the olefin has no backing/ pad. I purchased both thru overstock.com Good luck!

i just purchased the clear anti slip tape for my basement steps - got it at local hardware store that sold it by the foot. She should notifty the landlord that she intends to put this down.

I love these ideas. We just moved and sadly have a limited budget though. What would make a big impact for minimal cost? I am am thinking a large art piece above the sofa with more neutral pillows, moving the starbursts vertically between the windows. Simplifying the decor on the bookcase too. My fiancé’s going to freak with all the new nail holes I need to work with the bookcase and coffee table, but can probably swap those end tables. It’s too much Glass definitely. Those two paintings are from my favorite artist Janet Hill. I’d like to keep them in the room but could move them to the slanted wall and maybe even add an art light to them? Any other ideas?

Late to the thread here, but this might help those in the future. My carpeted parts have a nose that matches the false tread. The original poster has no nose at all on the carpeted areas so the ends of the false tread will show. (I'm done with carpeted stairs and here on houzz trying to figure out if I can now switch to all wood with a false tread. THAT's tricky!)
