Hello, we really need to paint our 1926 home. I hate the current color. Almond and maroon... not my style. But I think those colors match the reddish-brown roof. We are looking for ideas that will match the roof, but want to stay away from beiges and browns and almond colors. My husband was thinking a gray would be nice, but our interior colors are all shades of gray. I was thinking a white and a bluish-green trim color. I'm drawn to cooler colors, but not sure if any will work with that roof. Eventually we will be replacing the roof and changing it to a more charcoal tone. I'd also like to stain our front stoop another color other than concrete. We are open to any and all ideas. I was given an internal deadline of March 1 to pick a color. :) Help us!! Thank you!!

Masonry, especially stucco takes extra care in humid climates with the current booming construction markets. Your existing perforated or woven housewrap suggests questionable long term durability with that choice. If you stucco be sure to mind the gap. Gaps are important in most cladding systems so metal, wood or engineered siding installed on a rainscreen would be safer choices for durability considering most labor markets. Looks like you guys got continuous sill flashing below your windows so you seem to be ahead of the game compared to most projects involving weatherproofing.

The purpose of these drawings is convey needed information about the construction of a building, and not to illustrate what a building will actually look like in 3-D. For that, perspectives are necessary. So your huge roof will not look as huge and overbearing as it appears on the elevations. But it will dwarf your house and dominate your view of the house. Unfortunately, this is a common occurance when a drafter or CAD operator designs a house by unilaterally focusing on a floor plan, and thereafter simply plopping roof trusses on the walls of the floorplan. Looking at your roof plan, and floor plan outline, there's a quick and easy approach for a completely different roofing scheme which would greatly reduce your roof massing, but it requires eliminating or changing the roof over what I assume is a back porch. I hope natural light in the interiors of your house is not a major criterion, since you appear to have a very large, deep house, almost square in shape. It's going to be dark in there, regardless of your orientation.

There are concrete barrel tiles, but now there are metal and synthetic roofing designed to look like barrel tiles. A roof is a huge investment that you will live with for 20+ years. Choose wisely. Don't skimp on the underlayment. For barrel tile roofs the underlayment is what actually keeps your house dry. I have a concrete barrel tile roof and will change to a new product when the time is right.
