We looked at the Lazy Boy recliners - the looks of some would work for us, but they weren't very comfortable for us. We got Ekornes Stressless sofas. They recline and are very comfortable. They don't have an integrated foot rest, there are separate ottomans to use with them. We got the theater seating grouping because we like having at least one arm rest per seat, but you can get them in a normal couch configuration. Ours are large (wider seat) but they also have a medium size if you need more compact. In depth (front to back) they are pretty compact because they use a metal frame which allows for a thin back. There is a high back if you prefer that. We got the low back because it makes the room feel molre open and it's high enough for us and we got a couple of their recliners for when we want a higher back. They are pretty expensive but I expect them to be a very long term purchase.

IMO leather sofas are best when Italian made so neither . Proteceted leather will not breathe like it should and I have had leather furnitue in my homes for 50 Yrs not always the same but all Italian made and still going strong no added protection. A good clenaing and some dusting when you vacuum will go a long way . I do suggest no matter what you do not buy a super soft "fine" leather idt does not stand up well over time and stretches like crazy A good cowhide is what I choose for family rooms for my clients too.I suggest you lok for one that does not have springs and that usually comes out of italy.And please look at some colors besides brown and black.

I think a soft gray or beige could blend perfectly while offering a sophisticated look. You can look into customizable sofas because you can choose their size and color. A few months ago, we bought the Anna sofa from this store with custom sofas. It cost about $2100. It's a good price, compared to other stores where for such a sofa you would pay more than $3000. And they have fabrics in many colors, so you should be able to find something that suits your tastes. Also, consider floor-length curtains made of light, airy fabric like linen or sheer cotton. These will allow natural light to filter through so it will enhance the space's openness. For lighting, forget the wall sconces. A floor lamp and maybe some desk lamps would look much, much better.
