Transplanting Rose Coming From a Root?

Ill begin with the back story. We moved into our house in 2012 that had two rose bushes in the front flower bed. I'm not sure what variety they were. I haven't messed with the flower bed at all except to prune and fertilize the roses. They have been disease prone since we live there despite me trying to nurse them to health. Last fall I removed the two rose bushes. I dug down about a foot and cut off all the roots to the main plant. I am planning on redoing the front flower bed this spring. Needless to say my wife and neighbors were a little upset that I removed the roses. Earlier this winter I saw a sprout of the rose bush I assume is coming from a root that was left. I potted it and brought it into the house and left it on a window sill. Unfortunately it didn't make it through the winter. Today I was in the flower bed and saw another sprout from the roses.

How can I go about transplanting it into a pot to relocate it later on and to save myself from my wife and neighbors.
