Fireclay farmhouse sink issues

Just had a fire clay sink installed and granite put over it and everything. Plumber came and cannot fit the drain or disposal flange to the bottom openings. The drain will fit on one side and not the other, the disposal flange won’t fit on either side. Won’t fit through the top. Has anyone experienced this? Is there anyway to get custom fittings or have them fabricated?

Hi Randy thanks for your reply. They seem too small in diameter. Standard size opening is 3 1/2 inches – seems under that on both sides. I contacted the maker and they did say it could be dremmeled. It has to be done slowly and carefully they said of course. Makes me a bit nervous!

We have a 30" Shaw's for over 2 years. I love it. I love having the sink so close to me. I bought it local so I could bring marbles with me to see how it drains. I rejected the 1st two. It's still not perfect but much better than the others. No scratches but we have the grid. My DH curses it (since he's the one that cleans it all the time) but I love it. The grid is great - it also gives me another drying rack for dishes.

I installed this sink about 5 months ago and am very pleased with it. I have the contemporary side facing forward to go with my fairly contemporary kitchen (white Shaker cabinets; bar pulls). Make sure your installer has worked with these types of sinks before. I have had a Rohl Shaw's sink in my main residence for about 12 years. It is a more traditional look than my Blanco Cerana. And it was installed poorly to accommodate a kitchen drawer that would not have opened if it had been installed properly. And since I knew very little back then, I depended on the contractor, who never told me about the drawer issue and just installed the sink so the drawer next to it could open. None of that will concern you, however!

Yes, I agree! The offset drain is one of my main deciding factors. Bocchi contempo did have that plus some awesome accessories which is what I liked about it. Kohler doesn’t have any accessories that I can see for the Whitehaven apron front as far as colanders, strainers, cutting boards that sit in the sink. I like the smart divide in Kohler but it only comes on 36” and I need a 30”, 33” max sink. I think I will do Kohler, I just wish it came with something that sit nicely on the sink for rinsed veggies or sponges if needed.... I sure do appreciate all this feedback, what a help! ... Now, I know it doesn’t matter for inside sink dimensions, mostly looks, we are having our cabinets built so we can do whichever we prefer but idk what look I like better, tall apron or short?

Weight isn't really a valid consideration, especially when you utilize a Pete's Sink Mount Kit. I'm not a fireclay fan as you're always one dropped pot from replacement and it's virtually unrepairable. Keep a basin rack in your cast iron sink and you'll probably have no problems for years. Get the largest sink that will fit in your cabinet please. A 33" sink undermounts into a 33" cabinet, no problem, no matter what the sink manufacturer says.

That’s what you get with fire clay. They are all misshaped slightly. The cheap ones horrendously so.

It ends up cracking 9 out of 10. And will need replacing.

I meant to follow up sooner with the outcome. The openings were successfully widened enough with a dremel with diamond bit. They were just a little bit too small and misshapen, so I don’t know what would have happened if a lot of dremeling was required. We were very much relieved of course! Thanks for your responses back then-
