range hood/extractor fan??

This is one of the last bigger decisions that we still need to make. We are getting a 30" induction range, one that doesn't go beyond 38,000 watts on the highest element. I cook almost every night and use probably an "average" amount of various methods - saute, pan fry, sauces, etc. I only use my wok about once a month, and I don't do any deep frying. Do I need a giant hood that will take the space of cabinets. or can I get an under-cabinet hood? And do I *have* to go beyond 30"?
