Air conditioning unit placement--please help!!!
Comments (14)I hesitate to make this comment, since it sounds like you are too far along, but perhaps it will help someone else. This problem is one of the reasons that we decided to do a geothermal system. I know of a historic style house (a Deerfield house to be exact) that was built in the 80's with a geothermal system. When the well went dry during a drought (it was an open loop system), the homeowners put in AC condensers. It totally ruined the look of the house. There was no good place to put it and it was noisy. Their experience made me think about the placement of units and ultimately decide against them. My story does have a happy ending. Incorporating geothermal into my new build inspired the owners of the Deerfield house to redo their geothermal system and the ugly units are gone! They are back to beauty on all sides and no racket....See MoreHeat Pump+Furnace or Reg AirConditioning+Furnace?
Comments (6)Ross A dual fuel system can be a very effective strategy for heating one's home. Here are a few things that you should consider. 1. a complete understanding of nat gas rates and electric rates 2. your area's winter climate 3. your home's insulation qualities 4.a look into the future as far as whether electric rates are expected to be more stable than gas rates. In general, I have found that an electric rate of less than $0.11/KWh can make a high eff heat pump very compelling. I am attaching a fuel comparison calculator. Keep in mind that a heat pump performs double duty both in heating and cooling so its life may be marginally less on a dual fuel system depending on a good maintenance program. Today's heat pumps are much better as far as comfort than those 10 yrs+ ago. Good luck with your project and decision. Comments (5)I know nothing about why your home is not set up for central air. I can speak knowledgeably about split a/c units. We installed them when we lived in Thailand. They are remarkable, in that they usually feature a dehumidify setting, to get the moisture out without making it too cold, as well as a cooling setting. If they worked at 17 degrees from the equator during monsoon season and hot dry season they ought to work well in Washington state. We went with small units in each bedroom, so that we were only cooling the area we were in, and one larger 20kbtu unit for the entire downstairs....See MoreA TV, chest of drawers, and air-conditioning unit not coexisting well!
Comments (1)the wires don't have to stay there. someone just didn't want to go through the trouble of taking a long drill bit and drilling through the wood to feed the wire down to the bottom. But it can be done. you could do a wall mount for the tv to cover that outlet. get one that rotates out so you can view it and push it back when not in use. you could find a piece of art to hang over that and hide it....See MoreRelated Professionals
