Do you want to be able to open and close them every day? Do you have an inspiration photo that shows the look you want?

Do youhave room for an inside mount rod? Like these...

IMO these are not the answer to those windows. I laso think the short rods that only have panels hung on them just look silly. Why not just faux romand shades if you do not require privacy. I would just leave them alone I think the sheers do nothing for the windows.

Thanks for the comments. I just felt like the rooms needed something to pull it together. I don't have inside room to mount a roman shade which I think is kind of casual for those rooms which are more formal. I guess I agree about the simple rod which just hangs there! I went with a rather busy print for the kitchen window and rug so the formal rooms look pretty plain. Ugh!

1st impression, would something like this work? It gives me the design element I am going for without overwhelming the space. I would use the diamond pattern sheers to make the faux roman shade, in each window section. thoughts anyone?

It would be hard to make roman shades out of that fabric. There is a fair amount of construction that would show through a sheer fabric like that. The seams, lining, cords,etc would all be visible. The fabric above is thin and some of these things are visible.

I would recommend doing nothing, rather than the truncated rod.

If you really want curtains to frame these windows, than I'd get a properly sized bay window rod - leaving it long enough for the sheers to be completely off the glass when they're pushed back. Place the rod as close to the ceiling as reasonably possible (leave room for the rings, finial, heading of curtains etc.).

I would leave it bare but if you must have curtains, a normal curtain rod and four panels like this

I like the Roman shade idea as well, but agree with the previous comments that the fabric of the sheers will be too flimsy to use for that purpose. If you go that route, You'll need to look for a fabric with the right weight that will hang well and fold properly. Experienced and knowledgeable personnel at a fabric store should be able to make some recommendations for you. As for short rods vs. complete rods for hanging panels, I've seen examples of both that I've liked and some that haven't always worked. I agree with qam999 that hanging a complete bay window rod closer to the ceiling raises the eye level and often makes the room feel bigger and the window seem grander, if that's what you're needing for this space. It's hard to judge without seeing the whole room, but your goal should be to create a sense of balance with what is happening elsewhere in the room. I've occasionally asked my long-suffering husband to stand on a small step-ladder and hold up panels at different heights while I stand back to figure out the best height at which to hang them (poor guy)! I can then look at them from different vantage points in the room to find the right height to create that design balance. I often use the extra-long panels and I hang them higher, because I tend to like the sense of a taller ceiling, but you need to find the right feel for you. If the curtains are lightweight, you may be able to tack them up on the wall with some painter's tape to allow you to step back, but it helps to have that perspective to make an accurate judgement. I'd love to see pictures of the end result when you're done!
