Nonetheless, the words in your posts are I am losing so much money every spring because I am terrible at planting trees. and I bought a Zelkova and I figured this tree would give a nice addition . Knowing how a tree is properly planted will allow you to plant a tree properly yourself, or alternatively not be taken by people who improperly plant trees and take your money thinking you don't know any better. It is immediately obvious this tree is too deep, too wet, and improperly planted all the way around. As there is no timeline given above, hopefully you can contact the nursery and tell them the tree is in the warranty period and the people they sent out to plant the tree were incompetent. Regardless of warranty period, you have two options: dig up the tree and try to save it. Or you could get another tree from this nursery and plant it yourself, as there is a risk that this nursery will do another incompetent job. Dan

I'd like to add that the leaves of this plant look a lot like my "Crosby's compact mini" jade plant. These leaves naturally have a reddish-brown ring around the edge -- this is the sign of a healthy leaf. Repot in the smallest terra cotta pot you can find (seriously, the smallest.) When you take the baby jade plant out of the soggy soil, clean all of the soggy soil off of the roots and leaves and examine the whole plant. Anything that is mushy, slimy, or rotted brown/black should be removed -- it is entirely possible that the only healthy part of the plant is that one leaf. If you are left with only one leaf, don't despair -- you can use a single jade plant leaf to grow a whole new plant. To do this, I break the leaf off the plant, put it leaf on a clean, dry saucer and let the broken end callus in the air for a couple days. Then I put the leaf into DRY well-draining soil mix, and mist it after 5-7 days -- not to the point of soaking it, just to get a little moisture onto the soil around it. From then on, I mist it twice a week. If the air where the plant is kept is very dry, I might mist it 3x a week, but if it's very humid, I only mist once a week. You will have the best chance of successfully propagating the plant if you leave it pretty much alone -- no checking for roots every day! After two weeks, you can GENTLY try to pick up the leaf -- if it's rooted, you will feel resistance. Once it is rooted, you can carefully start watering the plant.

My wife had one in Sydney and it thrived for 20 years or more, brought it up here (Tweed Heads area) and over some years it finally died; I put it down to the weather. I'd suggest the weather up there is less suitable than here, and, also, maybe you are watering it a bit too much - I know ours have gone for fairly long periods without water. By the way they're easily grown from cuttings. B

This is what I got. The sand is not that fine, it’s 1.5 mm, and it’s mixed with the soil, so it doesn’t seem like it can clog up if that’s what you’re thinking of. Do you think it’s ok? The other bag is the pebbles, the bag says 2mm but they are much bigger, I’d definitely say 3mm and more. I tried googling for images of coarse sand and grit just so I can get a better idea as in our language it’s all just sand and pebbles 😆 And I had to buy these at a different store, flower shops are not allowed to sell them, so I know she wasn’t advising just to sell something, it was genuine advice. She didn’t specify what kind of sand or pebbles though, so these I picked out myself, just what seemed ok to me. I doubt I could find pumice though. I mean tou probably could if you’re an enthousiast, but I’m just an amateur.
