I bet you are referring to the Home Depot granite top at 31 inches. I had the same problem. The first counter top worked great in my hall upstairs bath - was the 41 inch or whatever that size was. Powder room was like yours though - my vanity butts up against the wall and is 30 inches. Would not work for me b/c if I allowed a 1 inch overhang on the side, I found the bowl to be off center. May not be noticable in your room but it was in mine. the sink was not even with the middle of the vanity. Someone did post a link though about how to use a wet saw and do it, etc to shave off the extra 1/2 inch or you can take it to a granite yard and have it done...

Have you accounted for the extra height counters in the design? It will affect quite a few things. Edited to add: I went back and looked at your previous post on your kitchen and saw that you are using a range. That laminated double 3 cm counter won't work with a range unless the cabinets themselves are a custom height built shorter so that the range doesn't end up "underneath" the counters (fire hazard!). I'm assuming that the baking area in front of the window (which I previously assumed would be a cooktop) will be a lowered counter? Am I seeing that correctly? That would work with a built up edge there, but it will also raise the height. The edge detail you pictured is only on the island in your inspiration. It's very busy visually, and adding on all of the scallops around the bumpout adds to the visual busyness. You already have the bumpout, the feet, the cabinet detail on the side panels , the window at the baking area, and all of those windows of the VIEW which is the main focal point of the home. What does your door style look like? It is also SHOUTING for attention? Minimizing the focal points in a kitchen is one way to keep them as focal points. When everything starts to vie for your attention, you don't notice any of the special features and it becomes just a visual blur of too many details. What 3 things do you want to be the star of your kitchen? The eye can't really support more centers of attention than that. Everything else should be subtle supporters that strengthen the role of the attention getters. Personally, I'd eliminate that bumpout and go with a simpler edge for the whole kitchen. The bumpout is a inauthentic detail that doesn't work with the rest of the space. Now, if the sink was there, it would be an authentic detail and there would be a logical reason for it to be bumped out. Or, if that section ONLY was in marble for baking and lowered, and the rest of the counters were another material, that would be an authentic detail and a reason for the bumpout. With your layout, it competes with the view and the range area, and doesn't do it successfully because it's "off". This post was edited by hollysprings on Mon, May 27, 13 at 10:45

Thanks Bill, Currently the sheet vinyl is glued to the cement slab kitchen floor. Does that vinyl have to be scraped up or can porcelain tile be laid right on top of the sheet vinyl? I'll check the Bosch manual to see if the measurements are there, but when I open the DW door and look at the top edge of the DW it seems really close to the bottom of the countertop. I don't know about the legs, but will check. I did ask to have the DW installed with side mounts so that when we get granite the DW won't have to be attached to the granite. If the tile is installed first is there a good chance that the weight of rolling the granite pieces over the tile floor during granite installation will break the tile? Mihojas, I totally feel your pain. In fact this post has brought back some of the hurt feelings and frustration I had during our kitchen reno which is now 7 years old. CANNOT believe it, but I have the receipts and FB photos to prove it! I won't bore you with all the details, suffice to say that I could probably write a book about the troubles we had. Our Granite woes began with the night (few days before Christmas so freezing cold that it took what seemed like hours for granite to thaw) of install. By the time all these men left my kitchen, I realized that they had granite running in all different ways and seams were atrocious! We ended up having two pieces replaced, fine. There was a broken piece in back corner of another piece that I knew would get covered up by backsplash, and even though they offered to replace that piece too, I said it was fine, and it was, no need to replace it. Anyhow, fast forward a few months to when new granite comes in, grain is going the correct way, but this granite doesn't match the pattern of the old pieces that were staying. A couple of weeks in, the peninsula starts cracking...long long story short, they decide to just replace all the granite and make sure it is cut with the grain and pattern all going the way we want/specify... Meanwhile, six/seven months after initial order the granite for my pony wall finally arrives...fabricator spends most of the day installing the two pieces (16 feet long). As I inspect it before he leaves, I notice one piece is cracked completely in half, can't remember now if there was even any attempt to repair it. He admits he broke it at the shop before he loaded it onto his truck. I was sick...went into DH's den and said I cannot deal with this, granite is cracked in half and Allen was just going to pretend nothing was wrong... Anyhow, that granite ended up being completely replaced. It all broke when they took it off, so there wasn't the possibility of just fixing the broken half. I won't continue with further granite stories...but do have to say I was appalled at how relatively nice people who I thought I had a decent relationship with tried to 'pull the wool over my eyes'. I think I am very reasonable, perhaps even close to being a push-over, but dealing with this company actually taught me the valuable lesson of learning how to speak up for myself, and learn how to demand being treated with respect and with honesty. I think that is all you are demanding. Just so you know, I have now learned to live with that crack in the peninsula for 7 years...company went bankrupt the DAY my granite was scheduled to be replaced. I paid for a fairly decent repair with the money I never had to pay for my granite.
