Successful graft of Meiwa kumquat to lee tangerine tree ?????
Comments (4)It is not the sideways green thing. It is at the bump about 3/8 inch above the green thing. It might be dead and it might burst out now that the tree is sideways and the bud area is exposed to light....See MoreIs a meiwa kumquat that much better than Nagami?
Comments (12)well, I think the tree that I have been taking the fruit from is Meiwa (neighbors).. small oblong or round fruit, lg ones almost the size of a quarter but rarer.. ususlly a lg black olive to a nickel size. I think the taste can be described as.. texture of a peach, but taste of a sweet ripe orange, wash off and pop the whole thing in your mouth (I only eat one at a time).. tip: chew slowly until you get the seeds out, and eat the skin.. don't chomp down on it (them).. the seeds are many and large, but worth the effort to remove......See More5 one year old seedling Meiwa kumquat trees starting 2018
Comments (44)The fruitless under the can light Meiwa has finished its growth spurt with a total of 44 linear inches of new twigs with fresh leaves. It is now tied for the second biggest of seed grown Meiwa kumquat trees I picked the fruit off the other Meiwa tree at half ripe and the skin was sweet and the flesh was very juicy but not much flavor in sweet or sour. I was afraid a mouse would get it and it was the only fruit from a seed grown tree. I also picked all the much ripper fruit from my grafted meiwa and the fruit was sweet skinned with semi sweet tart flesh. very much worth eating. This will actually be the last entry for this thread from Me and I will continue this discussion in "4 seed grown 2 year old Meiwa kumquat tree for year 2019". I will leave a link to the new thread when I start it. forget what I said above. I did not expect this much change in one of the trees. Steve...See MoreMeiwa kumquat with fruits
Comments (9)Thanks Halyna! They look bigger only because my tree is very small :) I bought it 1.5 year ago from Menlo Growers via local nursery. It was not growing at all for 8 months. I was very skeptical since it was very bad even by Meiwa standards. Fortunately, it has been growing ever since little by little. I have just planted it in ground today. I know many people like growing citrus in containers but it is not for me. I decided to plant most of my citrus in ground and Meiwa was my last piece. I have only Meyer and Rangpur in containers now. I also have 9 figs in containers but it is a different story :)...See Morebadfish8696
