Google "shutter colors for red brick house" and you'll see a lot of nice suggestions. I like the ones that show pale grey-blues or pale bluish-greens. I do think that red brick actually leans toward terra cotta, and red doors kind of clash with the brick. I could see the pale blues on both your shutters and door. I think I'd remove the shutters on the main window because being so close to the door, there actually might be too much color.

I love MCM houses I have one built in 1956 hunted high and low for one. Those whatever they are on the windows on the right need to go the planter on the left is very MCM and I would just plant lower growing stuff there . The white needs to be a much darker color for sure but the big thing is the landscaping . If you google MCM landscaping you will find tons of inspiration , BTW those homes were so well built you never get that in a new build .If possibel those window grids need to go and really cool MCM front door would be nice.

thanks! kendallinsd I think those window changes to the bedrooms would make a big difference to the curb appeal. by the way, I am not against painting brick. if done right, it will be fine. however, yours is a nice muted reddish tone. I think what's not working is that there's too much contrast between the brick and siding, breaking up the shapes. the mockups houssaon and I did for you look better because it gives your house a more cohesive look. I also encourage keeping (or restoring) that pergola. again, it's part of the midcentury shape of that house that makes it special. but like I suggested before, a wood pillar might look better there. have fun. post pics as you improve this adorable home!

Thank you, both! I certainly understand and appreciate where you are coming from. Waiting has been our mindset for a long time. We have lived here for ten years mostly focusing on saving, doing infrastructure projects, and tackling smaller landscaping projects (it is on 3+ acres and much has been done in the back). It doesn't look like much now (spring has not really arrived where we are) but the beds will be full with plants soon as it warms and we always plant annuals, planters, pots, and baskets. The greenery always does wonders to make it look more welcoming! We have gone back and forth about waiting. Unfortunately, the paint has been slowly running off the house when it rains since we moved in, some places are down to bare aluminum, and the deck has not been done for three years and is in need of painting anyway. We feel like we need to address it now in order to maintain the house and keep from opening ourselves up to bigger issues down the line. Aside from the painting (which we plan to do ourselves) the other projects should not be impacted when we renovate (patio furniture, trellis, steps, etc.). A good chunk of the funds will go toward furniture and based on our budget estimates. The paint and associated supplies will represent a much smaller portion.
