Suggestions on great room design
I wonder whether people here can give some suggestions on the layout options to the great room design. The space is limited and I am struggling which one of the following to choose.
The pros of #1 is that the area next to sofa can be left open;
The pros of #2 - love the kitchen by itself
The pros of #3 - the pantry tall cabinets

6 years ago@armchairshopper, made the layout changes; there is a window on the right wall but we can still capture the "clean view" idea. So the counter-depth fridge, a tall cabinet , build-in microwave are all going to the right wall. Is this what you are picturing?

Comments (8)Test samples by painting a large square of color in the middle of big white poster board. The white border around it will keep your current wall color and floors from distorting what you'll see. Move the boards around to every wall and in day and night conditions as well as in differing weather to be sure it continues to please you as surroundings change. Comments (6)It looks like the best thing is to start with a new 3 seat sofa. Since you have the TV above the mantle, we assume you want your seating positioned that way. Comments (19)Does the PB sofa creep into the hall? It does feel a little bulky for that room and you cannot get around it on the window side/no place for an end table. No need to sell. Opt1) Keep the 2 chairs,. Put them side by side as they are with a narrow table between. They are fine. OPt 2) Move one of the sofas in from the living room (appears to be a smaller size than the PB one) Move the 2 C&B chairs into the living room. They actually fit better style-wise with the living room chairs (than the blue ones). Do you need all of those chairs in the living room? Could the blue chairs go elsewhere? 6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoHere's my first try. It basically hinges on letting go of the island and turning the garage side of the space into a kitchen/dining/mudroom. I think it's a really efficient layout. Those are open shelves above the dishwasher for daily used dishes. The sink is 36" sink. This is the best affordable sink ever. I love it. The upper cabinets go all the way across the back wall for tons of storage and to lessen visual clutter.
By turning the sofa, folks sitting in the living room can easily see people in the kitchen dining and it keeps the whole room more open. You could put toy storage behind the couch like a sofa table so your kids have a nice place to play in the sunniest corner of the space.
