The space directly opp the door will be a lovely spot for the crib and a mobile above. I think romans are indeed a good idea. How does the area behind the small door currently function?

What a fun space for a nursery, I would use the white for the walls but maybe see if you can find some fun decals that can be changed later , have fun with this space. I would just change the floors to match the rest as good as you can

Google "Attic Nursery" and press images. They are all adorable and none of them are sad!!! This could be a very interesting and happy room for your baby. If you click on one of the colors, you will see a bunch of teal rooms or whatever. :)

Behind the mystery door is just a small storage space. We will be completely redoing the upstairs in a couple years (will have architect draw it up) so i would want to do cosmetic touches upstairs for now. I would ideally like to put in hardwoods but I think it would make more sense to wait.

Glad everyone agrees roman shades are a better choice. I think once painted it will look a lot better. I do also like the idea of putting a fun mobile in the pitched area of the ceiling.

How about stenciling as an accent wall give the room some depth. Is this for a girl or boy? What is the room size?

In which case, consider adding shelving to the foreshortened wall. You can build them (can be done with hand tools/ minimal skill) in, or place a purchased unit in front. Congratulations, too!

Claire-its for a boy. I'm not super big into stenciling or wall decals. Call me a weirdo but I don't like nursery rooms that are too "babyish". I think I may stick with large animal photography prints or a large vintage map of a national park in our area.

Hilda- I would love for this to be a creative space but we need it as a nursery. We will have 3 kids and there are only currently 3 rooms upstairs. So new baby needs a room too.

@mimimomy: I've read that black and white stripes or stripes of alternating contrasting light and dark colors are the best way to help stimulate a baby's brain growth... not sure on the science but made sense when I read about it! So you might want to consider that when choosing pictures/wallcoverings.

I think this wallpaper could be very cool. It's not very babyish (it's not used for a baby here) in this photo, but offers nice contrasts. Might do a wall in a high-contrast paper such as this, and paint the other walls, with a wainscoting on the bottom of the painted walls?

Repainting a winter white -- one without a pink or yellow hue is a great idea. Consider vertical blinds for the window because that will enable you to have more ways to direct/increase/decrease the sunlight than traditional blinds, and

they will not visually "shrink" the room as curtains and drapes can,

it will not matter that the right side of the window is against the wall,

vertical blinds come in wood, faux wood, fabric and vinyl -- the vinyl ones come in a myriad of colors and they're easily cleaned.

Also, with vertical blinds inside the windows (rather than curtains or drapes hanging lower than the window), you can create a built in window seat -- toy box and shelves and cabinets -- all across that end wall. A smaller 1/2 version of this:

I really love thesome of these wallpapers, especially the land of nod one and the some of the graphic animal ones.

And yes we will have a cordless blind/roman shades. I'm super paranoid about strangulation hazard.

I would keep the room all the same color-even the ceiling. It will help mimimize the angles and short walls in the room. Paint out woodwork in the same color as the room but use a semi-gloss for the trim. An inside mount roman shade would probably fit the window best since the trim goes all the way to the wall. Congratulations on your new little one!

I think I may just stick with a warm white for walls, ceiling and trim color. I do like color but I also love using fun graphic art for my kid's rooms and a lot of times I feel like I am then restricted on the artwork I choose (or make) because it doesn't go with the wall color.

I am thinking about possibly doing just one wall in a woodland or animal wall paper as seen below and then using artwork on the "plain" walls.

You have good taste and a great little room to work with considering all the fun angles. For a quick and temporary redo I like your ideas with the paint, blinds and art. Add a great big soft rug and you would be set until the remodel.

Great idea! I hope you'll show pics of your progress. My son is expecting our first grandchild this summer (it's a girl!) and I've been having so much fun helping to plan the nursery.

Any other suggestions on flooring? I believe I do want to keep it carpet vs another type (for now). I liked the previous suggestion of a patterned grey.

I don't know how I feel about cork or vinyl in a bedroom, although my husband likes cork so he would probably be up for that.

Still a long ways to go. We are doing the whole house, we are currently drywalling and then laying flooring and painting. Then I will finally be able to start decorating. I am starting to think about lighting (along with the rest of the house).

so I am back mostly just to bump this post because it took me forever to find. Can you believe "baby boy" is 13 months old and is finally going to get moved out of my room to this room this week?!?

I will most pictures tomorrow. The rooms been painted for a while (alabaster white for walls, trim and ceiling), I have a Roman shade in there and an Ikea children's armoire. I will be moving the crib in there and a bentwood rocker this week.

I'm hoping to get opinions if I should add some wall (or ceiling) treatment, where I should hang art and if I should give that vintage bentwood rocker a makeover or leave it be.

ok here is at where I am today. I'd thought I'd be further along a year plus later...

I included some pictures of the ro and possibly layouts. The room is tiny, 8ft by 9ft, the window is 4ft so takes up half of one wall. The slopped ceiling make placement of taller pieces hard (crib and armoire). I could leave armoire where it is and out the crib on door wall and bentwood chair in corner as shown in 1st drawing. Or move the crib to under the pitch and the armoire by the window but it would be tight.

This is what the crib looks like and the measurements but it is an off white. I'm hoping the spindles help the room from looking closed off. And the bentwood rocker which measures 36" at it's widest depth.
