SW Ivoire a tad apricot - any other ideas for warm creamy yellow
Comments (3)Thank you for replies. It really is a minefield picking the right colour. If I go more yellow downstairs, then it plays up green undertones upstairs in hallways etc. - yet if I go more yellow upstairs it plays up a hint of apricot in the yellow downstairs!! So I either have a paint that appears (i) yellow or yellow with hint of apricot depending on the part of the house (ii) yellow or yellow with greeny/acid undertones. I have to give somewhere. I think with the look I want to create, it is better to err on the side of no green undertones anywhere. Here is a link to a house that used Ivoire in almost every room. Pretty fancy house. Even though the paint is mainly yellow, I can see a slight apricot undertone in some of the photos and it actually looks pretty nice. My downstairs would play out a bit like the more apricot versions of Ivoire such as the photo with the yellow chair and some walls in the guest bedroom. The link: http://www.houzz.com/projects/7796/3--Pebble-Beach-Traditional---French-Country-Estate/ls=2 p.s. Below is a photo of the ceramic tile flooring I have in my kitchen (not a photo of my kitchen, just the same floor in a promo photo). It is a pinky-orange lightish terra cotta. I think green undertones in a yellow paint would not look right with this floor and it is a centerpiece of my house and visible from the living room - you can see they have apricot undertones in this photo and it looks nice....See MoreKnocking each other out....Yellow beige versus Pink beige
Comments (9)Given a yellowish ceiling and a pink-beige floor (and the brown trim) what paint color do I choose without creating a clash between these two colors ? Orange. Also known as (YR) Yellow-Red in my world. The pink and yellow don't relate to each other as a pair because the geometry is off. A quick look at a color wheel will show you how to fix any color combination that doesn't look right or looks like it's missing something. In the case of pink and yellow, something is missing. And that's a bridge color to link the two. In this case it's colors from the orange (YR) hue family. The geometry of a color wheel applies to all colors, purely saturated, tints, tones, shades, near neutrals - all of 'em are included....See MoreIn Praise of Overcooked Stew
Comments (10)LOL! Jasdip, I was going to put in a jalapeño, but I kept forgetting, and saw the can of Ro-tel, which was left from a recipe, when I was looking for a can of tomatoes. ;). It's just diced tomatoes with a bit of kick. Vermouth is great in this kind of thing. I keep cooking quality port, sherry, madeira and marsala in a cupboard by the stove for deglazing and other winey tasks, and but I have't figured out how to fit the sake, and the vermouth is too tall. ;) They each have their uses. :). None of it matters for a stew. Use what you have, keeping in mind what flavors go well together, and It'll be great! Wednesday, I only grow herbs and lemons. The fat carrots come from my weekly farm boxes, but we get the regular carrots—longer and pointier— in the same colors where I shop locally. They come in bunches of orange or “rainbow”. The latter usually have red and orange as well as purple and yellow, and sometimes a true white, though I wonder if those are albinos. The rainbow bunches from the farm are whatever they have going, and reds are scarcer. Fennel is usually available here—a lot of things are—but this one also came from the farm box. Everybody, this is more a beef flavored root stew than a beef stew. There was only one pound of meat. :) I have a head of green kale which I think will make a nice contrast to the sweetness of the roots....See MorePale yellow tiles in Powder Bath, need help with wall color.
Comments (17)Agree with others to keep any changes simple and inexpensive. I love the yellow tiles myself, but the lookers/buyers in our gray mod world probably won’t, and might end up gutting it all. The new sink and lights are beautiful and charming, love the idea of them in there (I’m so sick of generic modern ’updates’), but much too unique and taste specific for resell. Keep it calm and cohesive. You want them to imagine the potential regarding their own taste. Neutral paint, new sink, new faucet, and different window treatment or leave window bare is all I’d do. A clean blank slate with minor necessary updates is usually most desirable to potential buyers … as well as not be a waste of money and time for you. It doesn’t need to be ”fun”, or a design statement, it just needs to appeal to the masses....See Moreroarah
