Barocca soapstone looks like Ray Liotta after 2 hours. What else?
Comments (121)Marcolo, this isn't necessarily for you, but for someone who might be considering linoleum type counters in the future. When we were first married, we lived in an old farmhouse that had red lino floors, and red lino counters, perfect U shape postwar remodel, sigh. (It looked like they used the cutout of the floor to do the counters!) I don't know if the problems came with the age of the lino, or what, but every time I tried to lift something warm up off the counter, it would stick fast. So, things like a bowl of soup or a bowl of oatmeal would stick. When I'd finally pry the bowl up, a small chunk of linoleum would be stuck to the bottom of the bowl. Yuck! We were very happy when we could replace those counters with some laminate. I hope you find that durable finish you are after. Have to wonder if hard wood countertops might be a good option. I think they'd still give you somegrounding with the colors you are considering. This kitchen is especially bright, is it grounded enough?...See MoreOk, here is the 'Green Soapstone' Granite I am looking at--Pics
Comments (15)This is exactly what I think it is--serpentine. Yes, they do call it a granite--again, artistic license as I've learned about this industry now. So, it's not a soapstone OR a granite but they call it a "green soapstone granite". I purposely didn't pick marble (even though I LOVE it) because I knew how messy my two boys and I are, and thought we would ruin it in no time (also because I am going with a bit more rustic of a look and can't use white marble). It is gorgeous. However, I a tempted to just to the verde tunas granite (polished) which might be a nice contrast to my matte slate floor and matte stone wall. Also, I know exactly what I am getting. I am afraid with the serpentine I would stain it or etch it if it's like a marble. I have hounded the granite people (IMC-a HUGE granite yard)about this and they also have it in a leathered finish and then this honed finish. Verde Tunas isn't my dream granite or anything but it's calm enough (reads like a solid color and won't compete with what I've got going on) that it might "go the best". Everybody says how gorgeous this is, yet no one has picked it for their kitchen. That being said, I am wondering if there are a lot of people who do actually have this "green soapstone" granite that think they have soapstone (though you couldn't oil it)???...See Morehoned dark green granite that looks like soapstone?
Comments (19)Here are two graphics of my proposed kitchen with the idea of using honed green granite on the perimeter, cherry butcher block on the island with a soapstone farmhouse prep sink. I have included a gorgeous kitchen from which I got the inspiration plus the forth picture shows my honed granite samples and soapstone below. Any and all thoughts regarding the concept? Comments (9)I am a fabricator. If you like the look of soapstone go with it. In almost every respect it's material properties are superior to engineered stone and it is far more beautiful. (there is a reason soapstone is used in chem labs where the countertop can be exposed to practically anything sooner or later.) Also it still has an "up scale" flavor while "quartz" is well on it's way to becoming the naugahyde of countertop materials....See MoreBeverlyFLADeziner
