clematis rooguchi in bad shape...
Comments (3)I have the same clematis rooghchi that grows back every year looking great then from the bottom leaves up it slowly gets a mottled light green leaves that eventually brown and dry up. Any ideas as to what this condition is? I've applied a fungicide which helps a little but it still this condition continues....See MoreAquastat Settings, and Hot Water Question
Comments (3)baymee, Thanks for the response, I appreciate it. I thought that the coil might potentially need cleaned, so I asked the HVAC tech about this. He said that by looking at it, there are no signs of calcium or any build up. He said something about being able to tell either at the joints, or one other way which I forget...but said it looked to be in good shape and wouldn't recommend cleaning it yet...mainly b/c of the cost to do so...something in the $200 range. The mixing valve is brand new (3 weeks old) so I don't think it will need cleaned yet. You're right about the efficiency, I was told is was mid 80's. I will adjust the lo limit back up to 160 and see if this helps. It's funny b/c he actually told me the opposite of what you said. He said by adjusting it to 150 on the lo, it wouldn't run as long. It's possible he meant it wouldn't stop and start as much. If the problem persists, would you recommend going against the word of the first HVAC tech and having the coil cleaned anyway? Also, we do plan on having some new windows installed...actually getting an estimate later today. In addition, would it help out if I better insulated the basement around the boiler? There are two doors leading to the outside and a crawl space under the porch where the oil tank is located, neither is insulated well and as such, the basement isn't very warm. If I insulate those doors, and can keep the basement warmer, will the boiler have an easier time keeping the water temperature up? Thanks....See Morewater softner question
Comments (4)Part of the problem with salt recrystallizing is that the quality of salt is poor and the softener uses HARD water to regenerate. IOW, it is cleaning itself with the very water it is designed to correct. The not only does the brine water become dirty causing some salts to solidify, but the resins have a shorter life as they either crack and are decimated or become encrusted (calcified) and pearl-like. This causes hardness to bleed through or requires higher salt dosage or more frequent regenerations...that is, if the owner is ever aware of what is happening. You CAN switch to a better salt but you are stuck with a design shortcoming. Andy Christensen, CWS-II...See MorePlumerias in bad shape after repotting
Comments (4)"Adequate water" means what exactly? You are correct about repotting during a heat not being the wisest choice. But hindsight is often 20/20 as they say and if the old media was that problematic, waiting could have been risky as well. Your plants sound like they are showing signs of trauma from the repot. Litterbug's Qs are spot on. IF, for example, you removed all -- or close to it -- of the old media (which you should have) then you most certainly and unavoidably stripped the roots of their delicate root hairs. These structures do most of the water absorption. Until new ones can be grown, the plants will have difficulty in taking up water. This is even more problematic when temps are high and the plants are transpiring more. Also, the plants may be experiencing quite a bit of root loss as roots which were accustomed to a very moist media must now try to adapt to a far airier/drier one. Until they adapt or new roots are grown, water uptake will be difficult....See Moreeld6161
