I can totally relate to what you're going through. I used to look at my bedroom and think there's just something off or missing. I bought, returned and exchanged bedding like nobody's business. It was a running joke in my family. I finally realized it was the way I made my bed. I still love to change my bedding but now I stick with a few core pieces. These items never change: White bedskirt - tailored or ruffled (your personal preferance) White Sheets: - Fitted and flat White Pillow cases: Number of pillows depends on size of bed I've upgraded through the years and now have a white coverlet, shams and bedskirt (I also have my plain white set, just in case). This has really worked out well for my fickle personality. I've included a picture of my bedding and I feel the key to liking your bedroom is how the bed is made. Do you have a white set of sheets? If not, they're quite inexpensive and Wal-mart carries them along with bedskirts. Fold your quilt/comforter at the foot of your bed. Depending on the size of your bed, place 2-3 white pillows first, then shams and and 2 more white pillows and finish it off with one decorative pillow. I have a Cal. King bed which calls for a few more pillows. I hope this helps. I also feel it doesn't matter if your bedding has a cream background (mine does) instead of white as long as your sheets and bedskirt are white it pulls it all together. BTW I liked your red bedding, I think it just needed a little tweaking. I also like what you have now. Good luck and most of all have fun!!

Ontario mom, I am posting pictures of our "blue room" that isn't actually painted blue. I think that the blue of Scandinavian Christmas plates looks best on a color other than blue. The white Holly Kay linked to, or something similar, would be beautiful for pine furniture and floors. This is a sort of montage of photos of the room. I have about 100 plates and cannot display them all, but they were the starting point for the room. It was already painted this gold color. I used other blue and white pieces i already owned (urns, vases, Foo dogs, etc) in this room as well. We purchase the oil of children on the beach and I framed it myself in the plein air style. Sorry for the horrible iPhone photos....this shows the plates above the headboard. We used DS2's childhood furniture (armoire and dark pine single size sleigh bed ). We recently put rustic white oak floors in the room and I added this blue and taupe-y gray rug: Closer of plates above headboard (these are Norwegian) and other blue and white stuff on shelf in bed alcove: In the corner is a display thing bought at Ballard Back Room in Atlanta (their discount place). They called it a bookcase but it is perfect for displaying plates in a corner! This is an interesting side table my mother gave me for my birthday about seven years ago. It is a mosaic top made up of broken pieces of blue and white china. On it is a lamp that was in my childhood room...a little too "good" for the rest of the room, but I wanted to use what I had. The bedding is a discontinued Ralph Lauren pattern I found on ebay. They incorporate shades of navy, royal and light blue, which is a perfect foil for the plates. I use the white matellasse cover on the bed with the comforter folded up at the foot. Hope these photos help you envision a blue and white room :-)

Hello everyone! Thanks for your awesome advice. I agree w @groveraxle. I think I may need to consider replacing my rug w something a little more orangey. We love the gray poofy rug. But I’m not sure it matches and is making the purchase of the coffee table quite challenging. I liked @BeverlyFLADeziner recommendation of the 2 x silver patina tables. They are “different”. But I think I may need to add a glass top. What do you guys think of these one? Do they clash w the sectional? The first 2 are from wayfair and I think I’d put 2 as u all recommended. The 3rd amazon and only 1. Can I keep the rug or change it for something beigier? Sorry I stink at colors! You all have been tremendously helpful!

Balance: I’d skip drapes as a rod a few extra inches above windows won’t affect the ceiling/window effect. The tv is really high for viewing and I’d be bringing it to eye level. If interested and if room allows, can you turn sectional/console so they are facing windows and place tv there and art above fireplace. If keeping as is, add a huge piece of art between windows again to draw the eyes down into room. . Decor: suggest light textured blinds, a floor lamp and side table in corner with new chair to fill that space nicely and as a nod towards coastal, cushions, lamps and art will do the trick.
