what would you do with this family room?
Comments (10)What a beautiful room to have a problem with. I'm being facetious, this room has possibilities for so many different styles. You can really have a great time pulling it together. I love the room. So, dimensions are needed and another pic of the wall not shown. I actually counted the wood boards and came up with far less than expected for the width, even changing up what their actual width may be. Obviously my method didn't work to figure out the dimensions. Looking at the windows it is obvious a special lense was used for taking photos and has skewed what we are seeing. Is there an opening to a dining room or kitchen we are not seeing? Doors going outside? I love fireplaces and agree with others that the area is a great place for creating a conversation piece. It looks like the fireplace does have installation options for a TV above. But am not a fan of doing so and think the wall design itself is one to focus on. Creating another TV area. The right wall looks like it was meant for a gallery wall with lights under the bump outs. And not sure how much room there is between the heat outlets on the floor on both sides, which will dictate furniture placement. If this is the family room, do you have a living room too? What style do you like? Is there current furniture which will be used or can be used? Agree with the fan being replaced, but it may be a necessary element. You might want to wait 'til living there awhile to consider a need. There are many new styles available and would look at the possibilities for a better fit in the room. You are going to be busy moving, but don't forget us. Really want to see how the room evolves....See MoreFireplace..eyesore or asset? counter/color scheme/ design help pl
Comments (28)Thanks so much to everyone. Romy718, your room is beautiful!! You do not need to wait for rugs & accessories to know that, it looks great and the colors are so pretty and work great together. Thanks for showing me. And I need to go on back to the backsplash thread and start looking up info on those tiles. I think the one that you said you were using in your own kitchen is my favorite...is it ok if our houses end up looking like cousins?! gpraceman, someday I hope to replace the slate hearth with soapstone. That was my plan for this remodel but budget got tight and we decided to just scrub down the existing slate hearth, my GC put some sort of sealer/enhancer on it; and we painted the shelf White dove same color as our trim. I'm not crazy about it, I really want a thicker distressed wood mantle, but it'll do for now. nyse2502, first, thank you Im so glad to hear you like my fireplace! This thread is from several months ago, in the meantime I had several other threads going round and round on what countertop material to choose. In the end I went away from the Sea Pearl, the Jet Mist, the Steel gray... and ended up with a Calcutta marble on my island that I love and a very plain almost solid gray Silestone on my perimeter which I am really happy with. It was a great solution for me. I got a (relatively) small little chunk of a gorgeous fragile material that I love, and then I have an extremely durable uncomplicated attractive counter everywhere else that I don't have to worry about. I admit to being totally overwhelmed and absorbed with my own reno that I haven't had tons of time to be looking at all the threads on here so maybe I missed it, but have you posted pics of your whole house reno? Sounds like a huge job, congrats on being done! I'll post a picture of my updated fireplace. This room still needs a lot of work...a rug, something on other side of fireplace, different mirror or something else on mantle, a screen for fp...but you get the idea. Thanks for all the support on this thread!...See MoreEyesore in living room
Comments (2)I think the beam can be used to divide that space into two functional areas (that’s probably what I would do) - I would hang the tv between the two windows with a sofa and a couple of chairs opposite, and have a reading/relaxing area on the other side of the beam....See MoreHow do I tie in an eyesore with kitchen cabinet paint color?
Comments (21)BM Swiss Coffee for GR/whole house walls. Wondering if the SW Chopsticks would be the warm contrast you were referring to, Lori A. Sawaya, and would tie in with light brown stained floor and stone fireplace. Adding Chopsticks to the mix gets too complicated for me. Too many colors, a lot of other stuff going on in the space. That's why I said a simple, basic white. You could do Swiss Coffee on the cabinets because of the different product and finish used on the cabinets, it's not going to look the same as the walls but it's still the same color. Swiss Coffee or Chopsticks - they're both a bolder color commitment than white....See More
