What color trim paint with cream walls?

We have 35-year-old wood trim (baseboards, door frames, doors) throughout our house that needs to be painted (or replaced and painted). We also have cream walls throughout that we'd like to avoid having to paint. Should we do white trim or match the trim to the cream walls? What if we want to paint the doors black or charcoal--what trim color then? We also need to paint a lot of wood stair railing (with open wood steps). I assume the balusters and wood trim on the bottom should be the same color as the baseboards/door frames. Maybe white/cream with a black handrail? Wood handrail? Help!

What color is your ceiling? It doesn't look bad to me where your wall color hits the white ceiling, so I would go for white trim (but keep those beams wood!).

Be careful with colored doors. For one, they're an issue if and when you ever go to sell. But more importantly, charcoal and black are cooler colors and would probably look better with white, not cream, walls. (White trim works with them).

As for stairs, you can do it either way but I would keep railing wood and balusters whatever you decide to paint the trim.

The ceiling is actually the same color as the walls.

Be careful that there's no blue undertones in the gray grout you choose. I thought we needed a blue undertone but what we chose turned out too blue. Tec Sterling sounds familiar as one we may have been considering when we thought we needed a blue tone. Is MP Mapei? I wouldn't use their product. I heard that tilers don't like it. I know that after my tiler got their rep involved in my issue, they pulled several colors off the shelf because of quality issues.
