new to Heirloom?

Most nurseries use "new" rather loosely. I know of one catalog that even specifies that it can mean "brand new OR a cultivar that has not been in our catalog for at least the last two years", lol. But most people in the rose world have come to expect it to mean an actual never-before-seen rose. Lancome can only be considered "new" to a "new" generation of gardeners who've never heard of it...because they're too young to have seen it the first time around, lol.

Is it new to the US? Oh wait, I see HMF says K&M and Hortico have it. Their websites don't list it though. New to Heirloom? Definitely an odd use of 'new'.

Fig_insanity, merely off the catalog TWO YEARS to be labeled 'new'? Those companies are ridiculous!

They undoubtedly got it from Cliff when they bought out his roses a few yrs ago. I got one of his mother plants, but it died. I might order it. Always wanted it for some reason. I know it's basically just a hot pink, but really quite rare in the US.

It's a pretty pink, I'll admit. Ooo, it's thornless! There's not much info on my zone, but one person on HMF says it "does beautifully here in zone 5, bordering on zone 4." Of course they don't say how/if they winter protect. Fragrance seems to be mixed - some say faint, some moderate/strong. Nothing about disease or shade tolerance.

I hope anyone who does get it posts about it on HMF - no ratings and just three comments aren't much.

In that case, can we safely assume Heirloom's Lancome propagating stock is Rose Mosaic Virus free, as they claim all their roses are?

Do you think it will thrive on its own roots, since the older hybrid teas were routinely sold as grafted roses, and were never really expected to be grown own root?

Moses, I have no idea if it's virus free or not. Cliff imported roses from several European suppliers. Heirloom acquired his roses about 5yrs ago or thereabouts. This is the first time I've seen it listed since then, so either it was difficult to propagate, or they had to let the mother plant grow to a decent size before they could take cuttings. I think it's worth trying it, simply due to the rarity. I need to go see what else I can pick out so as to get over the $50 min for free shipping.

On another note regarding Heirloom.... I just emailed them yesterday about a rose I got last yr that was mislabeled. I was hoping it would change color as it re-bloomed last summer, because I've had some own-roots not bloom true on the first couple of bloomings, and this one bloomed with colors similar to it's daddy. But we determined it was indeed the wrong rose, and they already are preparing to ship me a replacement free of charge! Including shipping! How cool is that!! I certainly hope it will be the right rose this time!! It was FRAGRANT DREAM, however I received JUDY GARLAND.

Heirloom Roses is really grating on my last nerve. I already have an order on the books for spring delivery. I emailed them over the weekend to add two roses that were on “sale” to my existing order. The online system wouldn’t allow it and I tried calling but their office is closed on the weekend. The following Monday I get this bullsh*te response:

”Thank you for your inquiry. We cannot add to the existing order as our system will not let us. The sales prices are over, so you can either wait until we have another order, or you can place a new order online. Any order over $50 will get free shipping. You can create a new order online and then set it for the same shipment date as the other order. Thank you!

My previous order already qualified for free shipping, I wanted to add two more roses which combined also qualified for free shipping, but what if I only wanted to add one rose? I would have to pay additional shipping. However, that’s a moot point if they don’t honor their own sales prices. To pour salt on the wound, I’ve been able to make changes to my orders in the past. I don’t appreciate having my arm twisted to order more overpriced products just to buy some roses from them, and having multiple boxes shipped increases the chances of plants getting delayed or lost in the mail. I also don’t appreciate getting spammed 2-3 times a week by fake sales emails advertising fake “new” introductions.

They are destroying the joy of getting mail order plants with their greedy grubby little hands. I personally won’t miss Heirloom Roses if they go out of business. It’s becoming too aggravating to buy roses from them, and I refuse to reward bad behavior.

Romogen, I've actually also had bad experience with Crystal before. Seems like she can't be bothered with any questions.

They seem to be the only source for Sievers' alba hybrids. I'm stalking the site for an OGR sale as I can't justify $45 a gallon. I didn't have any problems but I've only had to talk to someone about cancelling a single item in an order (I'd already ordered that rose from Chamblee's, oops). The real test will be later this spring as I don't think Ebb Tide or surprising Quicksilver (though I think I got a dud) have made it through this yo-yoing MO winter.

I had the same experience with heirloom last summer. I had an order for one rose as soon as I Hit send I saw another rose that I would like to add to the order. I got up from the computer I called them to add a second rose and even within that 4 to 5 minute time they wouldn't let me do it that's the last I will order from heirloom

Someone should really email them and include a link to this thread...

...and I haven't even put my two cents' worth in, but really, it would just be beating a dead horse.

...but please wait on that email until I know if I need replacements for those roses LOL!

On Heirloom's website they clearly state that you cannot add sale roses to an existing order.

ARE had the same policy during their recent free shipping sale.

When I saw Lancome advertised on Heirloom's website, I thought they meant "new to them".

I've purchased many roses from them for 20 years and have never once had a bad experience or a mislabeled rose. I've never had one of their roses die either.

Everyone has had different experiences and is entitled to their own opinions.

I just want to add my positive experience to the mix:)

Edited to add: I stand corrected. Heirloom's website says: "Sale prices may not be applied to prior orders".

That is different to what Romogen described happened to him.

To clarify the matter, Heirloom's statement should read, "OLD introduction for 2018," not, "NEW introduction for 2018," or just, "Reintroduction for 2018." Better yet, it should read, "New at Heirloom for 2018," alternately, "Now in stock for 2018."

Romegen , I had the same thing happen to me. I wasn't able to get ahold of them when a rose was on sale and assumed they would honor the price ( I had emailed them to swap out a rose ) well when I did get them the sale was over so o would have to pay the difference. Very irritating, even though in the email they said no problem . I'll still order if I can't find it anywhere else or a great sale but I prefer roses unlimited. Never once had my emails gone unanswered or I made to feel like an inconvenience with pat. She's absolutely wonderful!
