sueb20: I love the names of paint, that sounds beautiful and, interestingly enough, it was the kind of color that I wanted to find for the siding of our home; we finally went vinyl to my husband's delight. I found the color on BM's virtual fan and I'll be pulling that color when I go to the store next week. It's overwhelming when I go there and to think that I'm going to need to find the right colors for five other rooms; OMG! Thank you for your suggestion.

A navy blue would be nice. But, once you start updating a kitchen it's hard to find a good stopping point. Often people find that once they update one thing, it just highlights the other outdated elements. Are you planning on updating the appliances, wallpaper, and flooring?

Hi, Scott-- Great job so far - that island is killer! I think Design Construction is right about considering a longer, rectangular fixture to center over your extended sink area. What I'd also recommend is adding a can on the same circuit to above and just in front of your cutting area (so it won't cast those over-shoulder shadows when slicing and dicing). Dimmable together, they would help highlight both areas where you really want to be able to amp up the lighting when needed for intricate tasks, and bump them back down since the area is also open to a dining zone and possibly other living space, too. If the laminate splash is new and you like it, that is fine, but it looks like there might be cream in the countertop and then you could consider a cream (more white than yellow) on the island. Actually, I have similar cabinets and also a small island which I did not paint - have opted to lighten counters and backsplash instead - though I've seen mid and darker counters look good too.
