How can I give this living room a more modern look
Comments (21)I think you like non-fussy, casual, kinda transitional(for whatever it means)..cozy and very livable..and you re not against some mixing and matching-you're not the style purist given all that-i think your chances on making your rental homey for you and your family are not only big-they're grand.. tie the colors together since it's a bit strange they have different color carpets in dining and living(do they? or is my monitor playing mind games with me?), with rugs, pillows since you seem to like them, change the chairs that irritate you to no end for something that you can live with(just store these ones safely), and then go slow, enjoy the process..travel..and bring things that you find while you travel..it'll be fun, and it will be meaningful...See MoreHelp with making my living room modern and bright?
Comments (4)Why is one wall black? Are you allowed to paint? If so, paint all walls a nice light neutral. Get rid of those two brown chairs (or relocate to another room). They are too big for the space and there is no way to watch TV while sitting in them. Hang the tv on the wall at eye level when you are sitting on the couch and get a long low console to put under the TV. Get the bookcase out of that corner (you can possibly relocate some books to the new TV console). Put a slim end table with a lamp or a floor lamp where the bookcase is instead. You need better lighting than what is coming from the overhead ceiling fan (which I'm assuming can't be changed) and that could be achieved with the right lamps. None of your furniture really says "modern industrial" but you can go that direction with a new TV console and lamp and choosing a large industrial style artwork to go behind the sectional. Lastly, I would change your rug and coffee table if you have the budget....See MoreBoho-Modern Living Room and Dining Room. Thoughts and advice?
Comments (5)I think your design is a great starting point. Love all the plants you have going on. That ottoman doesn't fit the style very well, but I think a different ottoman could. Something more like the one in hollybar's first pic. An ikat patterned fabric would be great. Also, you'll notice that every inspo pic has bright white walls. Yours are very neutral, so they'll likely work, but your room might feel a bit different because of the color. I would avoid using lots of different colors, since boho tends to be very neutral. The pop of color on the ottoman is all you need. Try to keep the art fairly subdued, or very natural feeling. Love the white frames and mats in your design. Botanical prints could work well. Or maybe use more structural art pieces instead of prints. Look through all those inspo pics for ideas. Texture is super important to make boho work, especially since there's not a lot of color. The interest comes from the texture. Wood, leather, metal, knit are all great textures to introduce. Subtle patterns are good too. Get a very textural rug as a good base. Maybe sisal or more shaggy....See MoreNeed Help!! Modern/Industrial Design for Condo (Living/Dining space)
Comments (2)Congratulations! It looks like a fantastic property :) When buying a new home, especially a first home, it is best to move in first before making changes. It is amazing how much living in the space for a while (six to 12 months) gives you a different approach to what you want to change. Try it, at least for a few months. BTW, love the live edge table. Be aware that scale is important. It is easy to buy furniture of any type that is too large so make sure to keep your dimensions with you so you don't make a purchase that is too large for the space....See MoreRelated Professionals
