Living Room Symmetry - TV v. Fireplace

We just moved into a new home and I am having the hardest time trying to figure out how to layout this living room. Open concept flow between kitchen and living room. While fireplace is "centered" in the room, it is actually off center for staging purposes as the right side is cut off with a hallway leading to the master suite. Very little room consequently to right of fireplace and large gap to left of it. TV hangs on left wall (as pictured). Purchased Crate and Barrel Verano sofa but have no clue how to stage furniture in this space without (A) having everything feel off center in orientation to the fireplace and (B) having accent chairs/additional seating directly in front of and facing away from the TV. Considered sofa facing and centered on fireplace, but then have awkward space on either side. Considered sofa facing TV to right of fireplace, but then unsure how to comfortably close in the side facing the fireplace to create a dedicated living room space. Appreciate any help! No additional seating has been purchased aside from the sofa (deal we couldn't pass up and great family couch - albeit HUGE -additional dilemma... 90" long x 46.5" deep). Please ignore the awful mess. :/

Congrats on the new home!

The TV looks too high as it is unfortunately and putting it over the fireplace would only make it worse. You ideal TV height should be level with your eyes at your desired seating position. Putting it too high will strain your neck and make it uncomfortable to watch. It does help that your seating is set pretty fat back.

Maybe put it on the wall or corner to the left of the fireplace?

Is it possible to put the tv above the fireplace and make that the center of the room even With the hallway? Even though the walls are offset, the fireplace still grounds the center of the room. then center the sofa in front of the fireplace and have a loveseat or 2 chairs off to the left along the wall where the tv currently sits. It would leave a walkway open to the right of the fireplace so that you don’t have the sofa you have to go around.

Not a Pro. Your rushing, if you post a pic of accurate dimensions of the room you will get so many different layouts from the posters on Houzz and one of them will work for you and your needs. I would not make a separate area for the baby and toys in your room, because they out grow the area fast, but I would make sure you have decorative storage to house the little toys, etc. Something that can later be used to store board games, blankets, etc. Think long term. Don't rush, just to fill the room.

Thank you. Honestly, we are avid TV watchers but aren't willing to sacrifice the view either. I can't really include pics as it is not torn out enough yet to see how it lays out. The ceiling is vaulted so the TV from the ceiling might not be best and would be down pretty much permanently. You use a small break for the TV. I considered putting a smallish fireplace on the window wall with a TV above but worried that blocking off the view would be a mistake i would regret. Also, If i put the TV on the window wall in any sort of built in manner, that would really limit changing furniture arrangement in the future. I really don't want to make a mistake!!

Move the love seat to the opposite side so the sofa/loveseat makes an L shape. Place 2 small swivel chairs with a small table between them opposite the sofa.

Will you use the fireplace? And do you need both fireplace and tv in the same room. From the photos space looks kind of tight but it might be how I’m seeing it

Put the TV beside the fireplace on the left, lower to what you have it now. Then the focus can be the fireplace wall

Another vote for TV to go left of fireplace. Keep mantel simple. Don't know if you need anything on the left wall though once your furniture is arranged towards the fireplace....

Agree with the above that TV to the left of the FP is the best location for it. Put it on an articulating arm so you can adjust the TV location for viewing when it is on. You could have a console below the TV or not. You could build in the TV or not. What is your actual style? Is the big black couch the one you are using for this space or is the 90 inch couch not there yet? Please post a diagram of the space showing dimensions and where the doorways and windows are located, with measurements. It will result in the best responses for you.

We had a similar problem and solved it by closing off the fireplace and putting sheet rock over the opening. We put a buffet/tv stand in front of the now covered fireplace. The large 65" TV is exactly the right height and we have a lovely seating/viewing area in front of the TV. Sofa facing TV; loveseat to left of sofa; 2 chairs to right of sofa facing loveseat. The chairs are openframed wood so they do not obstruct the walkway to bedrooms either visually or physically. We watch a lot more TV than we used the fireplace. (BTW: we can remove the sheet-rock when we sell.)

TV on top of the fireplace with the couches running against the wall. Clear path to your hallway and looks lots better than any other option. Leaving it on the wall its on right now, PERSONALLY does not work.

You could put the tv over the fireplace and then use a pull down mount from mantle mounts to lower it to viewing position.

I personally think it would look best to the left of the fireplace (you are lucky the fireplace isnt centered. The TV alone is too light so you would eventually need some kind of console there.

The giant space in the middle of your furniture could just be temporary for a play area. If not, your furniture needs to be pulled in. You should be able to have a conversation with people in all the seating positions. About 18 inches from seating to the coffee table and around 36 inches between fireplace and furniture. Sofa will get pulled out of the way of the door and chairs pulled away from the bar.
