I was taught to START with the drapery fabric when working out a room's palette, but have done the opposite, too. I think it's harder, BTW, but our living room is proof that it can be successfully done! Paint up a piece of cardboard in your wall color (give it couple of coats), do the same thing for your trim color, see if you can score a sample of the couch leather (arm protectors?!). Your accent color is sage green... what does that mean, exactly? your trim is that color, your toss pillows, it's a color you really like... 'splain it to me. If you have a sample of it, add it to the wall color and leather samples. Go to the fabric store and walk around. Give yourself plenty of time (1/2 hr. won't be enough), and leave the kids with a sitter! Look for patterns that "grab" you and that work with your samples. DON'T rule out fabrics with dark backgrounds; a common mistake is thinking the background of the fabric must match the walls. UNHUH! all that is required for a good selection is that the wall color and upholstery be represented in the palette of the fabric you select. Hope this helps.

It's pretty worthless and almost impossible to sell. People aren't interested in upholstered furniture on the resale market and the style isn't iconic so there wouldn't be a market for collectors looking for specific styles. As posted, your best bet would be to donate and take the write off although it is sometimes difficult to find charities accepting upholstered furniture either. When I remodeled recently, I had problems even giving furniture away - antiques, wood, vintage, upholstered etc. and wound up giving it away to my neighbor's brother who was furnishing a home and was happy to take anything. This is not a criticism of the chair but just reflects what the marketplace is for used furniture - especially upholstered used furniture.

I also really like your room. When I enlarged the photo with your rug I saw that the chair and ottoman you are proposing would look very nice. The only thing I might add is that I could see using that deeper brown red similar to the cabinet you have (and that everdebz suggested in the bolder houndstooth pattern). Somehow I think that cabinet, even though not very large, could use balance in the room colorwise. Also just curious do you have recessed lighting? Wondering because I don't see lamps especially by the reading chair.
