Can't Find Right Shade of Gray
I'm having a heck of a time finding the right shade of a light-to-medium gray paint for a bathroom we are renovating. The photo shows the flooring we will put down.
I'd like to go with a gray-gray and not blue-gray, green-gray, beige-gray, ect.
First, I went to Lowes, since it is what's near me and brought home paint chips. Lowes carries Sherwin Williams, Olympic and Valspar. Then I bought numerous samples but ended up with some blue-grays and gray-violet. They just aren't what I'm going for. Can anyone steer me in the right color direction with one of those brands? Thanks!

Grays are much harder to work with then you can imagine as you are finding out. Do you have the lighting in your bathroom that will be there when you finish that is the first step.I like Vancouver Day C2 but not sure if C2 is available where you live. So hard to tell on a monitor

Comments (3)Yes, start with the soil. Mix in some handfuls of peat moss and/or potting soil to add water-retaining materials + nutrients. If high in chunky clay, remove some and replace with a mix of compost/top soil/and a little play sand. Petunias should cooperate in the sun but can become stressed if there is too much dryness or heat. Some personal recommendations if you haven't looked at these already: 1. Dianthus (the "annual" kind). These come in many colors, and with the winters PA we've been having, they will actually start growing back in February! I got all mine at Walmart 3 years ago and haven't lost a single one yet. They can grow to 1' tall and will bloom all spring/summer! For me, they actually do better than the smoky-foliaged "perennial" dianthus, which you see at stores growing up to 1' tall but mine never grow past a few inches each year. 2. New Guinea Impatiens. Highly sun tolerant, profuse flower producers and strong growers with very attractive foliage. Comments (11)Have you looked at Alabaster? Different rooms are going to show differently with lighting by day then by night. Best thing to do is select a couple of the colors you favor and get a couple of poster board cut in to 4's and leave the outer edge of the poster board white so your eyes don't play tricks on you. That is really the only way you will know if it turns green, blue or other in your particular space. I do love Shoji White. Shoji White is the perfect warm white with a gray undertone; it looks beautiful with wood or metal finishes. Yet, you need to see how it looks in your space even though it's under construction. If you have lighting in then you can see your picks placed on a few different walls so you know they don't change AM to PM lights on and off. Modern Gray is very pretty and if you find it a hint too dark given SW sells larger sample cans you can have them lighten it 25% (25% will be a very, very little bit lighter or you can do 50%) after testing it by taking the can back to them and telling them to lighten it. Patricia, you aren't kidding, gray is hard to work with!
I went back to Lowes after posting this and picked up more paint chips. I also took my bathrobe tie (!) as it is close to the shade of gray I'm aiming for, also took a floor sample.
The photo I' m posting here shows paint chips laid against the floor tile. All but the top right one have the word "gray" or "grey" in its name, none of which are what I'm looking for! Such an wide range of what is considered gray!!!
The top right chip is called "Whirlwind" which is closer to what I have in mind. I bought a sample, painted a few boards and letting them dry now. Can't tell if it'll be a bit too dark, altho maybe I could lighten it a tiny bit with white if that's the case.
