8ft interior doors or 6' 8' standard doors?
Comments (16)you will save quite a bit of money from changing from 10' plates to 9'. framing costs lower, drywall costs lower, less siding, etc. Not to mention save money on heating and cooling. PLus this thread mentions possible design issues with it and added costs associated with it. Our current design uses 9' plates in general, but the entry and dining bump up to 10' plates. we are using an 8' full glass front door. the living space is 9' plates with a 10' tray ceiling built into the trusses. kitchen is also 9' and we are using 42" high cabinets. in the kitchen consider indirect uplighting/cove lighting as a main source of light. Ironically most people load kitchens with cans. Cans are one of the worst lighting sources for a kitchen since it cast shadows on the work surface since you are blocking the light. Undercabinet lighting set to the front edge of the upper and indirect uploading will provide overall better lighting of the space. not having soffits will allow lighting above your cabinets....See More8’11 x 8’6 bathroom layout help
Comments (12)It's right here. Next to the vanity. Twenty four inches wide, approximately. Note. When you stand in a lowly tub shower, which you may be doing? You stand in 20 inches width. Baths are about inches. The contractor "didn't recommend a half wall. WHY? Glass on top of that knee wall gives you all the light from the window within the shower. It doesn't "leak".. Maybe have the brilliant contractor design your bath, as he apparently can not do, : ) You can leave the door and do as suggested above by another poster. Either can work as she posted. But a bath with no linen consideration is one I would try to AVOID. The bath is "adamant" about its INCHES. The inches are the dictators. I can assure you a 42 x 48 shower is very generous in daily use. Having no place for supplies and towels and etc at hand is not fun in a master bath, Which is why you plan first, buy vanities and tile etc..........after. I assume you now have a vanity with two finished sides, and in almost any scenario ......you don't want or need two finished sides....See MoreCan I build a 8' - 2x6" wall on top of a 3' - 6" CMU Wall ?
Comments (3)As long as the CMU wall has the right number of bolts to tie down the 2x6 ledger, I don't know why it won't work. I would also use vertical rebar in the CMU wall (drilled and epoxied into the footing, at the proper spacing, and voids filled with concrete around rebar). Also use ladder ties between courses to ensure its a rock solid wall. Does the CMU have the stone veneer finish already? You usually use a CMU that is deeper than the framed wall so that you get an exterior "brick ledge" for the stone veneer to rest on. Bruce...See MoreDoor Height 6’8”, 7” or 8”?
Comments (8)Do you have crown? 8 foot doors on a 9 foot ceiling can have issues with door casing and crown molding. Obviously they need to add up to less than 12 inches but even 10 inches can look crammed. Interior door costs are not bad but exterior ones add up. Exterior doors also don't need to match size with interior - IMO. But that depends on design/style etc. 7 foot doors are a little frustrating because (for us) they cost basically what 8 foot doors did for only 4 extra inches. In my area (and style), 7 foot is less common so more expensive for what you get. It is fair to say that 8 foot doors can have more practical issues than smaller doors. Warpage, alignment etc....See MoreRelated Professionals
