Kitchen colour ideas

Hello. Looking to update my kitchen by refinishing my kitchen cupboards, backsplash, flooring and wall. The only thing I am keeping is the countertop.
I would love advice on colors.
I am including a picture of the countertop and it looks more yellow than it is and my kitchen.

Give it a new paint job on the walls and some new lights, a hood instead of an OTR, and call it good. Leave the rest alone. Oak is making a comeback.

I think Sophie is right. The cabs, counter and floor all coordinate nicely. The wall colour - not so much. I'd try a greenish grey on the walls. Once you've chosen wall colour you can look at backsplash. Will you be removing the short splash that's there now? New cabinet hardware would also update things a lot.

It's a lot of wood in a small space. I can see areas where the varnish has worn off the cabinets, so at this point, they probably need to be sanded and stained. I would see if the stain can be lightened. It's dark even for oak. Deep yellow and terra cotta will make it feel even smaller. I've seen both with oak but am not fond of the combination. I like to cool down very warm colors with blue and green. Keep that floor in mind when you pick paint and countertops. It's got pink undertones. Laminate countertops would be an appropriate choice.

I'd agree white cabs are your best bet. You'll probably want to pull a white out of the countertop. Go get a bunch of swatches of different whites, probably leaning toward the greyed down whites or at least away from anything with a yellow or pink cast to it. However, if you want a color, your best bet with what you have going on there is probably either a green or a blue. It would have to be just the RIGHT green or blue. You could do a very soft green: Or green lowers and white uppers. Although this starts to be a lot of look. Or, if you're feeling very brave, a dark green I will note that (as GreenDesigns pointed out) most of the images one sees of green (even one that leans heavily into the blueish tones) tend to have warm wood. I did find one example with a greyer floor: Blue also has potential: If you can do some diy, you could even go get some fine moldings and dress those cabs up a little bit prior to painting: With either, brass hardware would warm things up a little bit.

White just find one that looks good with the counters and before choosing any color make sure you have LEDs in those pot lights in the 4000K range to keep color true.Painting cabinets is best done by a cabinet refinisher in a space where they are sprayed, done with conversion varnish and this is not cheap so if you absolutely love how the kitchen functions do it if this otherwise save the money until you can do the kitchen the way you want.BTW you do not choose wall color now you wait untile the cabinets are done.

I agree with Sophie too - and I also have an oak kitchen:)

Your countertop has the 4" backsplash and it looks like it is built into the countertop so cannot be removed. A tile backsplash on top of a 4" backsplash does not look the best, especially with wood cabinets.

The best backsplash with wood cabinets is a simple one - one that is subtle and lets the eye rest as the cabinets (because of the grain) and the countertops both have movement. There is nothing wrong with a painted backsplash area - that is so much better than the busy glass mosaics which some people mistakenly install in wood kitchens in an attempt to "update" - often gets ripped out a few months later after causing optically induced headaches.

I like the cabinets and the floor. I'd get a new counter top and paint the walls.
