Pendant light size over island, please help...
Comments (2)I would go larger if you are set on two pendants, otherwise they'll look tiny over the island. One way to to test the look is to make paper cutouts of different sizes and test them over where your island will be. Restoration Hardware's Benson pendants are similar, and Kichler Lighting makes versions as well. Here is a link to your pendants: VC Yoke Pendants...See MoreHow to space pendants over asymmetrical kitchen island?
Comments (16)you are going to have an 8' island. putting in tiny 6" mini pendants will look out of place. You will also need to lower them. countertop to the bottom of the lights really shouldn't be more than 25". (otherwise people sitting at the island will have the bulbs glaring in their eyes. mine are actually at 20") The ones you had over your previous peninsula are far too high (and too small) My island is 75". I have 6.5 pendants. If I put them in a line (they are in a triangle over the overhang because of the way the island/ceiling is built) they would be fine for the length. you have another 2' compared to mine. you could go a tad bit bigger or spread them out evenly. Don't worry about the sight lines. they aren't big enough to block anything!...See MoreHow far apart should I space pendant lights over Long Island?
Comments (14)What you should do is place the pendants absolutely centered on the island but place them 1/3 of the way in from the seating area. Then place a high hat directly above your sink for good task lighting. That's what I did and it works beautifully. Those sitting at the island get good lighting and you working at the sink get good lighting and no one will ever notice if it's slightly off because no one ever stands exactly dead center looking....See Morekitchen lighting dilemma - pendants or recessed over island
Comments (5)Your concerns are very valid, and there is absolutely no need to have pendant lighting if you have can lighting there. I'm from a family of tall people and really understand wanting the upper visual space to feel open. Keep the extra light you've added. It's always safer to have extra light than to miss it, and you can put those lights on dimmers to adjust the levels to the need of the moment....See MoreUser
