What color engineered flooring to choose w/gray brown furniture?

We are having our flooring replaced. We've bought some furniture that has an almost a whitewashed and gray brown wash on the legs. What we have now is way too dark and practically black(I didn't pick it out) ,which is why we bought lighter woods. I'm trying to find a medium brown with no red in it. Would it be okay if it had a tint of gray to blend? I'm afraid of it being dated quickly and we are not going to be changing the floors for a long time, so I thought a medium brown might work with our furnishings. Most of the things are on rugs but a console table and kitchen island stools are not. It's a dark house and I'm trying to lighten it up and warm it up a bit w/out going too warm. The style is classic w/ touches of French Country. Any suggestions? Also would 6 3/8" planks be trendy?

go for an engineered french oak. it will be a perfect compliment.

Do not choose wood flooring (expensive and permanent investment) to "go with" furniture! It is much easier and less expensive - in most cases anyway- to swap out or replace furniture!

If it were mine I’d be going with a medium brown. I wouldn’t have any gray in it, but that’s just me. There will always be gray decor, as there always has been, but I wouldn’t use it on something as permanent as flooring.

I bought 5 samples today, one of them was a white for trim so just 4 for the walls. After considering what I already have, I decided to pick ones that had different undertones. As an example, I didn't get Horizon, b/c it's so close to Paper White, and i have that color in two rooms in my current house. It's pretty, but it definitely reads blue. I think this is partly due to my trim being Snowfall White, which is very close to Simply White. I think with a truer white it might appear a little more gray, although still cool. I ended up with Intense White, which is actually what I had wanted to use in one room instead of the Paper White. Also got Shoreline 1471, which reads a little more gray than Horizon, although I feel like the purple will come out I wanted to make sure. Also got Classic Gray ElleN, I'm going to give it one more shot. And Swiss Coffee, b/c my sample is so old for that one. I feel like with what I have and the new, I should definitely be able to come up with something. I buy these small flat canvases at Walmart in a 3 pack and they work amazing for paint samples. I have found that even foam board can curl pretty easily, and I'm not a fan of painting directly on the wall anymore, have screwed that up too many times. ElleN I agree Halo is very green, so I don't think it will do me any favors. And Gray Mist is not a very fun color, but I can't believe it looked so yellow on your walls. I think you're right, they might have mixed something wrong. Here's a couple of pics of our old kitchen with it. It was a great neutral with the floors, cabinets and countertops.

well, that's baloney. if the cabinets are prepped/primed and painted properly, they should last just as long as factory painted. I'm having mine sprayed with a pre-cat lacquer. does your quote mention how they prep and paint? if you want to reface, that's a great option as well. I would NOT go w/home depot or lowes because they gouge you w/the prices. contact a local cabinet maker and refinisher if doing that. have you thought about doing a tile floor? something large like 24x24 or 30x30 tiles? basalt would look great. its a deep charcoal or a porcelain but, they do have some decent looking laminate. this is Coretec. or polish your cement slab and of course Fla is famous for those terrazzo tiles as for the brick, I think it depends what else you will be doing w/the kitchen. if painting them white, and doing the floor in something lighter, then I think you could do a lime wash on your brick and paint those cabinets next to it. (you could do a diff color on those instead of the white) look at Romabio for your brick

They look gorgeous!! Congrats! Thanks for your reaponse. Im really drawn to the ever classy look of the dark stain with the white kitchen, stairfaces and trim (well have light-medium gray walls with white trim throughout) but am just wondering how it would look with some more gray/weathered/barnwood looking furniture pieces we have. Every time I search for photos of grayish furniture they always show it on lighter floors so just trying to make sure things will tie in together. Thanks!!

As Beth shows - European Oak. Think about getting it in a smoked colour if you want a bit more depth.

Beth H. that look is my favorite! Only thing is, I've been told that UV oiled floors are hard to take care of by some people, and others say you don't have to do anything to them. I don't know about that! So I stopped looking at them. They are gorgeous. I don't know what color to go with though. I don't want to lose warmth. I am trying to create warmth and lighten it up a bit in this dark house and have a beautiful elegant but relaxed look and a welcoming and cozy feel. Is this timeless? I don't want trendy. Also I've been told that that wide of a plank can warp easier. We are in the Southeast w/ all the humidity and on a slab. Is that wide plank timeless too? We must be slower to catching on w/ this look, although I'm starting to see it more here.

I'm sure you can do these in non- UV oiled. tons of companies carry these.

as for the humidity and install, I'll let the flooring experts weigh in on that one. These wood floors aren't going to be any different from other no- french oak wood floors of the same caliber. Engineered would suit you better than solid.

I don't think these are trendy. just stay with a warm, oak color. you could do thinner planks as well. go to a flooring store and look at some them. oak is not trendy, and this european style has been around for centuries!
