need mantle ideas

I need some suggestions for what to do with my fireplace and mantel. It's got abshallow ledge so limited as to whay I can put there. I already have a mirror in this room so don't want to put another one there

Comments (7)The only thing that seems off is the hearth tile. Can't envision the rest of your space or the home style, but I'd replace the hearth (floor tile), with a small solid slab...maybe black granite (could get a remnant for that). Keep it simple...brick, black granite and traditional surround. The mantel and surround is classic and I'd leave it if it fits with the style of the home....See MoreMantle ideas needed

6 years agoI love your architectural prints. Are they from a particular country? Maybe a framed old map or a landscape or a period painting. I like dramatic art pieces over the fireplace.
The large map in the center of this group looks interesting.
This is a rather plain seascape, but it has nice color and a beautiful frame.
Not quite the right porportions, but a lovely painting.

6 years agoYou can still do art over the fireplace -- just make it something that has a bit of substance, so it can stand up to all the rest of the art. Could be color or framing, something that looks like (or is) oil paint...
or you could put a mirror there and hang lesser art where the current mirror is hung.
