Will I regret white grout on a backsplash? With Grout Maximizer?
Comments (5)Fun, I used epoxy grout in the bath surround. Yes it needs more cleaning to remove, but not the horror stories I've read. I did use a tile sealer on the top of tile before grouting and often wonder if this made a difference. As with all reviews you are going to read the rough adventures. I can't remember if those who had problems were new at grouting or the type of epoxy used. The process and manufacturer is never really mentioned. Why not try it on a small board? I probably used this on a couple of square feet at a time and cleaned off as I went. My spacing is 1/4". It looks great, smooth and clean. Is as hard as regular grout, not sure why others had an issue with it staying soft. And I used a premix, which many said to stay away from. I haven't had to do anything with mine for 5 years. Will add that it looks a bit different than normal grout, but you would have to look close. Wipes down right along with tile whenever wanted. It definitely seals between the tile. Take a chance and sample it before the big job. They have small containers. Also, even though this worked for me and I would do it again, there is always the norm of wanting what has always been. Standard grout can still be the norm for many....See MoreVote! Marble or white tile/dark grout backsplash? (pic heavy)
Comments (57)Now focusing on either completely white marble or pale marble body color with pale streaking. Any suggestions? (All my samples of marble have medium to dark toned streaks.) One idea is pillowed thassos like Mindimoo, but I dont have a picture. Is it my imagination or did my thread about choosing the finish of the Modernaire hood crown disappear?...See MoreBacksplash gurus help...Yellow River granite is in!! Is this back
Comments (47)alright, I am making progress. We are going with glass but still trying to get right shade. Yesterday I had a color called morning fog from Emser, but today I have 2 different colors. These were taken off of a mosaic type tile we did our master shower with, a set called sandswept. I went to a couple different shops today and was able to narrow down one of the colors as either American Olean willow or Interceramic Beach. Still working on the other one. Here is the one we have identified pretty much here is a comparison of the 2, one on the left I have been unable to identify, closest I have found was celedon from American Olean, and also the 2 with the morning fog posted yesterday Thoughts? I am thinking the one with the tan, khaki color would be perfect in a 4x8 or 4x12...See MoreQuestions about Installing this Marble Mosaic Backsplash
Comments (7)If you have never installed tile, this is not the way to start. First, it's highly visible in your kitchen. Second, it's marble which is more difficult to cut than ceramic. Third, it's TINY pieces, which, if you have to cut them, are impossible to hold in a wet saw. Fourth, you will be cutting HUNDREDS of these tiny pieces, to fit around objects and at edges. Fifth, with such a tight placing on the mesh, ANY deviation of fitting between sheets will result in very visible zipper lines from a distance, ruining the look. I am an advanced DIY with a lot of tile projects, and I would not touch this installation (extremely tedious to get the cuts correct, and the chances in a $15 per square foot mesh-ed tile are that they are laid on the mesh not perfectly and zipper lines will result between sheets - NOTHING you can do if they are laid on the mesh other than perfectly in a tight fit matrix like this). You are likely to end up with zipper lines. I will say it's a gorgeous look - I love it! You could possibly handle the 3x6 tiles with a proper wet saw and a ton of tile spacers if you are very skilled at learning new craft in general and working with tools. But marble tile in general is not a good first learning project in a highly visible location! And TINY strip mosaic pieces are about the most tedious and difficult to cut accurately. Without accurate cuts, the install will look rough and awful on a refined look like this, in your kitchen. I'm just trying to save you potential agony and cost!...See MoreUser
