Do braided area rugs look dated?

We moved into a historic home a few years ago and I'm wrapping up final touches on a few room.

I seem to have a hard time finding area rugs I like in colors that work and are in our budget. I repeatedly find that braided area rugs work well with the vibe of our home - they wear well, come in endless colors, and are inexpensive.

Right now our house has a mix of sisal/natural fiber rugs, some PB oriental style rugs, and then braided rugs in a few places such as the back hallway, kitchen, and the bathroom off of the living area.

My design dilemma - how much is too much? Do braided area rugs look to dated and would it be too much to use more upstairs in the kids rooms and such?
