Progress...Office painted - my desk area set up
Comments (17)WOW someone thought of me and a blog?! I'm quite flattered! It would be lovely to be able to do that but computers and I really do not get along on most levels. At least mine at home. Red - don't you think that massive picture would be just awesome behind my desk!!!!!!!!! It'd be almost like my own window on Paris! Over the wknd I got some more pics hung up in the office and I have to say I am really, really loving it. I know that that having so many pictures covering almost every sq. inch of wall space and horizontal surface is a realtors nightmare and most people would probably say - nope that's too much or what is she thinking, but I just love it! Every picture has a story behind it (even if I don't know who the person is or I haven't been to that place yet). My walls are like a visual library for me and I can't wait until the tiniest detail is done to show you all! This wknd I hope to get my floating shelves up on the wall beside my desk. I'm going to try and find my old mason jars and load them up w/ my pencils and other desk stuff as well as give DS1 a place to keep his collections of rocks and marbles out of reach of the younger ones. Yesterday afternoon I laid down on my kids car map rug in the office while the baby played(I was so tired). I looked around and it was soooooo peaceful and warm and family like....See MoreMy kitchen curse creeps into other aspects of my life...
Comments (2)Ouch. Sorry to hear you've had another disappointment but glad to hear it was resolved so readily. I have an Electra. Won it in this big contest / promo that Bicycling magazine did a few years ago. It's the first edition they did of their Townie model. It's a very cute bike but it's not very speedy or that good on hills. Other than that it's a very comfortable ride. I do get paranoid about the white handles and seat, though. If that's the model you have be aware that it doesn't sit very well on its kickstand. (Unless they've redesigned it in the past few years.) I've got a big ding that's going to require professional repair one of these days because of it tipping over....See MoreNeed suggestions from the Pros...help w/ my desk area, please!
Comments (3)Hmmm...you probably do not want to close up the wall above the current bar...but you could still put a calendar, etc. on the side walls. As to your comments/question, are you saying you will have 41" b/w the desk's counter edge and the island's counter edge? If the aisle b/w the desk & island is a walkway, then 41" may not even be enough room for an aisle. let alone any kind of seating! The appropriate aisle width depends on... (1) how much traffic there is in the aisle (through-traffic as well as kitchen traffic) (2) if you plan to have a chair at the desk (3) whether you plan to use that side of the island as a work station. If you're planning on seating on that side of the island plus have the desk w/seating, then you need a much wider aisle! I would venture to say as much as 5' (60"). If you make it a Message Center or no desk/desk chair on the kitchen side but still have island seating, then I would still like to see at least a 48" aisle with appropriate seating overhang on the island, and 54" if it's an aisle with traffic (i.e., not a "dead end" aisle) OR your overhang is less than 15"; 48" if there's no traffic. As to the "judges panel"...are you saying you would have the desk front be on the other side and have the back of the cabinet(s) face the kitchen? If so, then I assume you're talking about putting decorative door panels on the back of the desk cabinet(s)...and I think that's a good idea. If you're working on a layout, you might want to post here for comments...if you want comments, that is! (Not everyone does, so if you don't that's fine...just a suggestion.)...See MoreHelp me give my kitchen a face lift!
Comments (23)To me, everything about your kitchen says "quality" and traditional -- all of it -- the cabinets, countertop, floors, and cabinet hardware. It's really quite charming. For me, the major problem is poor quality lighting. Invest in a skylight if the home is a single story. Install under cabinet led lights. Thank goodness there is no expensive backsplash so you would only have sheet rock repair to take care of after running the electrical. Add recessed cans in the ceiling. I agree about increasing the size of the crown molding and also add a light rail. These don't have to match. They could be a darker stain than the cabinets or black. The floor needs several beautiful bright traditional runners. I would spend the $$$ on a new backsplash since it will be awhile before you'll remodel and would make a huge difference in updating that space. To save your back, invest in some pull out trays. Quikdrawers.com and Barker cabinets are both good companies that can take care of that. Are your drawers full extension? If not, you'll be much happier in that kitchen having full extension drawer slides again. That hulking black fridge is probably dominating the space. A CD fridge in stainless would make a huge difference. Look for one on CL. That is where I found mine for my remodel after about a month of daily scanning. And congrats on your lovely new home....See MoreBeth Bevington
