New FamilyRm - Brown Accent wall - need rug/furniture help
Comments (18)A lovely space, and the chocolate brown wall is luscious! I know you said you wanted red as your accent color, but I would think in terms of red being a second color - everything else really is brown. For the accent? A deep turquoise or teal - great with the brown, and amazing with red, too. I assume the tv is going over the fireplace. We don’t see the wall opposite the fireplace, but from looking at the kitchen pix, it would seem that the wall is solid on the left side as you look at it, and has a sliding door on the right. I don’t know if you are thinking sectional or separate pieces, so I will just throw some ideas out there. I would look for a piece like this, to put facing the fireplace/tv. thomasville derby sectional, fabrci 1331-40 You could add a leather ottoman if you feel you need a comfy place for feet , or this round copper coffee table. I think this could be really great in there, with the brown and red tones in it, and the curves to work with the rug and chair shapes and balance all the rectangles in the room. tribecca round copper table A sofa table or low cabinet behind the couch with a pair of lamps for lighting there. Then I would put a pair of upholstered swivel chairs on the left of the couch, facing the window, with a lamp/table between them. Perhaps a deep red fabric like this: sutton swivel glider chair, fabric 2622-91 Then over in the corner to the right of the fireplace, I would love to see a big reading chair, floor lamp and side table, perhaps a chair like this, in leather: linden street leather recliner Finally, a rug with all your colors and some great pattern, perhaps this: linden street chunky loop rug, in the aquamarine background On the back wall to the right of the slider, if there is room, you could have a desk and chair, if that would be useful, or perhaps a small table with two chairs for playing games. I don’t know what you are thinking for window treatments, but panels would be nice just for a finished look. If you need privacy you could also consider woven wood blinds. These panels from JCP might be ones to consider: linden chenille panels in henna stripe Then pillows and accents that pull in the reds and turquoise/teal. And of course art, but that is a personal choice....See MoreHELP!!! New home: Need so much new stuff and area rug help!
Comments (22)Home Interiors & Jodie White, Sorry guys. I'm new to this. Obviously, i need to create an Ideabook! I tend to go more towards muted brown, red, yellow/gold, rust colors (in past), but open to other somewhat neutral palettes. I actually love the console, but was considering an antique cream color (if I could make that work?). My tastes tend to be traditional, rustic, a little farmhouse (pottery barn, restoration hardware, ballard designs) but with so many current needs, all those in a TIGHT budget! Aktillery9, i do like all of those looks. My husband did just tell me, due to wiring, there is chance we may not be able to mount on flat wall as i hoped, so i may be forced to go back to corner console again. :( When I get a chance, I'll post some of my fav looks....See Moreplease suggest curtain and rug for my Family room.
Comments (18)I happened to notice your dining room rug and I'm sorry to say it's much too small. The rug should be large enough so that you when you stand up and pull the chairs back the chairs are still on the rug. This will also give more emphasis to this area as a room instead of just a small space. I would wait, however, until you've chosen your living room rug so that the two rugs will be complementary in color and style. The size of the living room rug, by the way, should also have a very generous size. I would personally choose plain white or cream colored curtains, or curtains with a subtle pattern and color if your carpet and pillows are colorful and you put wall art in this room (which it needs). With the darker patterned curtains your eyes will go straight toward the windows, whereas the attention should be directed to the room itself....See MoreNeed help with choosing new area rug and chair for living room
Comments (12)Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I like the idea of some blue in the rug to pull from the photo above the fireplace, but I couldn't seem to find the right blue. A lot of the carpets had too bright of a blue. I'm limited to choices though because I'll only order from somewhere that has a store in my area where I can easily return the rug if I don't like it. I've decided to give this Safavieh carpet a try, I have it on order. I'm hoping the pattern and texture will provide enough interest. I'll work on the chair after that. I wonder if a chair with blue in it will still work if I get this carpet? I can tie the chair in by adding a few more toss cushions to the couch with blue in them and a couple of blue accessories throughout the rest of the space....See MoreK M
