Dishwasher drawer vs 18 inch dishwasher
Comments (9)Haven't ever used a drawer, but you too can notice that dishdrawers have square racks as regular 24" DWs 18" diswashers are a compromise for very small kitchen. I mean : draw the biggest possible circle in a 24" x 24" square, then the biggest possible circle in a 18" x 24" rectangle. You can see that corners in the square are closer to the circle, while rectangle ones are not that close Spray arms draw a circle while spinning. So the spray action in rack corners is more effective in square rack designs (DD and 24" DW) than rectangular rack design (18" DW) If one is aware of this and loads a 18" DW consequently, there's no problem. But if you load tall and narrow juice glasses soiled of orange juice in the corners of a rectangular rack (18" DW), you can't pretend the will be cleaned as well as a dishdrawer or a regular 24" machine do Anyway a single drawer holds less items than the two racks of a 18" machine A regular 18" or 24" machine is more flexible than a double dishdrawer : in case of extralarge items you can raise the upper rack or even take it out (Bosch), with a dishdrawer ... you can handwash. I guess space is not your issue (a single drawer is as large as a 24" machine), rather you aren't supposed to have a daily full load in a regular 24" DW In this case be aware that latest european 24" DW have load size sensing devices and use 7-8 litres of water (round 2 gallons) for a *full= two racks* load. The *single* dishdrawer uses 1.95 gallons per load, so partially loaded 24" machines can even use less water than a *single* drawer. To cut a story short : if you have place go for a regular machine : it cleans better, you'll have plenty of place for those times you have guests at dinners and on the other side you can run partial loads without feeling "guilty"...See MoreDishwasher opposite dish drawer...space needed??
Comments (1)I have 50 inches from countertop to countertop and that is more than enough of room to have both open at the same time. My dish drawer is just a bit past the dishwasher but the flatware drawer and miscellaneous cookware drawer is directly across from the dishwasher. I think you could get by with 48 inches if you need and inch or two elsewhere. here is how mine looks with both fully open...See MoreDish drawers -- placement in relation to dishwasher
Comments (9)My dish drawer is across the aisle from my diswasher but I think the set up you are considering would be fine except for those times when someone is standing at the sink while you want unload the dishwasher. It wouldn't be a problem for me because I always unload my dshwasher first thing in the morning before anyone is up. You stated that you will have 2 six inch deep drawers and 2 that are nine inches deep. Is that the inside measurement of the drawers? Are your cabinets framed or frameless. If they are framed and that is the measurement of the front of the drawer box, the inside usable height will be less. My framed cabinetry drawers that are 10-3/4 inches on the front have an actual inside depth of only 7-5/8". If you haven't already done so you should measure the height of a stack of dishes you plan to store in the drawer (usually bowls will be the tallest stack), to make sure they will fit in your nine inch drawers. I love having my dishes in a drawer. Here is a picture of my 36" wide drawer filled with 8 place settings of my dishes. Oh and by the way, the peg system isn't really needed. I found that out after the fact....See MoreFisher Paykel two drawer dishwasher as a 2nd dishwasher?
Comments (21)zp99, I think as some others have said, I'd install a single drawer instead of the double as a second DW. You'd gain some cabinet/drawer space, and unless you really have a need to run 2 full-size DW's every week, I think it just makes more sense. We are installing a FP double integrated as our primary and only DW. I asked some questions about it in a POST a bit over a year ago, and at the end of the post is my review on what I felt I could fit inside. This was at the appliance store so of course I couldn't run it. Overwhelmingly, it seems those that have had them, love them. Having them installed properly seems to be paramount....See MoreAllison M
