Choosing kitchen cabinets: Decora vs. Dura Supreme

Hello. I am trying to decide between Decora and Dura Supreme for my kitchen cabinets. Any thoughts on which is a higher quality manufacturer? Many thanks. Chuck

At that midpoint quality level, any choice you make will have good quality. Some manufacturer's excel at Paint, like Plain and Fancy. Some excel at wood finishes with incredible depth like Medallion. Some excel at lower priced modifications that make some choices in semi custom less expensive than full custom. Some excel in molding choices that lend a custom touch.

Without having a direct requirement of a look, either would make you a fine kitchen. What has your KD worked with, and which does she prefer? Familiarity with a line, and a good working relationship with the factory also are important factors. Both have good customer service and are responsive to remakes or add ons---within the realm of most kitchen production timelines. No cabinet at this level is going to be dramatically "better" than another. It boils down to what is offered that floats your boat, or the relationship with the dealer.

Each makes a great product. They both have their strengths. So a large part will depend on what you are looking for. Framed or frameless? Custom color or material or standard? Custom widths and depths or standard for all? Either will make for a nice kitchen. But what are you looking for in your kitchen?

Thanks for the reply. We’re not sure yet about framed or frameless. We are going for a French country look. We’d probably be ok with standard colors. At this long we’d like to get an idea about the overall quality of construction and “feel” of these 2 makers (Dacora vs Dura Supreme). For example, we want the cabinets to have a nice heavy / solid feel.

I'm getting the Medallion, Brookhill, for the kitchen and something a little different for the master bathroom, haven't decided on powder room yet as I want to pick out the limestone first and then the cabinet after that. HD seemed pleased with the construction, etc. Had Brookhaven and Woodmode in my previous home, was very happy with them but the KD told me I would double the price so........... Originally started out with someone our builder uses, custom, but I didn't like his design at all, changed things, asked for a certain thing, he ignored me and I wasn't thrilled with him. Then the builder told me that he has a hard time dealing with women, they should be seen and not heard and apparently the builder's wife had a problem with him as well and finally told him it was HER kitchen and she wanted the dishwashers where she wanted them, etc. So we went elsewhere and KD showed us Medallion..............

Hi. I am responding to the discussion regarding selecting Dacora or Dura Supreme. I have the same question and will be doing framed cabinets in a painted finish. I am interested in the strengths and weaknesses of each. Quality of paint finish is very important as is the quality of the construction itself. Is there a visible difference in paint quality? Does the finish on one hold up better under day to day use than the other? Is one constructed better than the other? Lastly, I would like to understand if one company is better than the other in terms of delivery of quality products "as ordered" with least chance of returns requiring a replacement piece. I would appreciate your thoughts. Gerrie Shields

Durasupreme will have the slight edge. It’s a smaller manufacturer with a bit more attention to detail.

I am buying black painted cabinets so durability of the paint finish is primary for me. Is the slight edge you mention relate to the finish or the construction?
