May I see pictures of your basement playroom/family room?
Comments (7)Thanks for all the pictures and advice. My DH thinks that painting the floor is a good way to go, but I think it needs to be nicer. Sounds like most of you agree that the floor needs to be nice enough to feel comfortable with kids sitting on it to play. I think since we might be not putting much furniture down there to show, that clean painted walls, new light fixtures and carpet would be the easiest to do and have the largest appeal. Our ceiling is finished plaster, and has radiator pipes hanging on it, so it is not a new house with high ceilings and that type of setup. The ceiling and pipes are all sprayed off-white. Thanks for the preliminary help. I am currently working on emptying it out (we're getting a dumpster in 2 weeks). I will post some pictures when I get it emptied out....See Morefunctional tv playroom dining design dilemma
Comments (62)Since the dining table + play area will likely be changing over time, I'd put the large piece of art over the sofa, where it has the best light. For the dining + play area, I'd suggest installing a picture rail at ceiling height, then hanging the pictures from it. That will let you move things around as your needs change, without filling your walls with holes. Maybe row of black and white photos, not too small, would look good across that wall. You can buy all sorts of systems and hooks. https://www.decoraid.com/blog/best-picture-rails...See MoreYikes, Let's decorate the Playroom!
Comments (4)I’m guessing that reference to dads workout/bike area means he’s either a triathlete or cyclist. We’ve got lots of gear! May I suggest some storage for his area? I like those cube storage shelves (ikea, Target, Walmart) all sell them. They are great for storing hand weights, foam rollers, canvas drawers for things like gloves, arm warmers, etc. then make sure you’ve got an outlet nearby. The top of the shelf can be a nice surface for dad’s tablet or phone so he can either watch movies, listen to music on headphones, or just follow along with is training plan while riding. I also like a yoga mat for post ride stretching, etc. (I also place my bike & trainer on top of an old yoga mat. Helps protect the floors and keeps the ride steady.) Not sure if that helps at all, but that’s where my experience is, versus playroom ideas :) Happy planning!...See MoreHelp choosing curtains and wall color for family/play room
Comments (14)Thank you all! Definitely following the consensus and going with blinds over curtains - I'm thinking something neutral since I don't yet know what color we will paint the walls (and also, since these windows are so small, I don't necessarily want to draw attention to the window area). decoenthusiaste: You are right, we don't actually need blackout. We just need something that will provide privacy. Beth H. : This was so so helpful, thank you! Will definitely play around with all these ideas - this is really giving me some inspiration. everdebz: Unfortunately no other windows. Definitely agree that we need to bring into more light, especially table lamps, to warm up the space. Maureen: I agree that ~white walls and light furniture is the way to go. I think the brown armchair is on its way out (which is a pity, because it's so comfortable!) I will try to update this thread as we make progress. First up is blinds......See MoreJ Humphreys
