No more time! Need quick granite opinion
Comments (13)Well frie ds the search is over. I took a friend with me at lunch to see the exotica and a couple whitish gold granites in person. She agreed the exotica was impressive but with the photo of my kitchen colors and my interest in creating a light airy look...she confirmed the *bad boy* would not b the best fit. So I have bought colonial gold exta which is white gold and a little rusty warm. Brown. It is more neutral. .and yes more boring...but although I pouted at giving up the gorgeous exotica I admit to a sense of relief. Marji...u were right. Hoping this will look as good on my counter as I think!...See MoreUpdate, from oak & tile to white painted cabinets & granite
Comments (24)Thanks! So far the feedback from real estate agents who've seen the house has been positive. We're still not ready to sell though, perhaps in the fall. Meanwhile we've been enjoying the kitchen, except for an issue with the granite seam at the sink, argh! I really didn't want the seam there but I realize it's standard, and better to have a couple of small seams than one long one running front to back on the counter. The seam at the front of the sink is cracked and crumbling. I've posted for advice on the Stone Advice forum and am getting the fabricator to come out & fix it. Otherwise things are great and I'm loving the double oven. The top oven seems to take forever to heat up when it's in "regular" mode, but in convection mode things move a lot faster. I'm still experimenting, but so far it's been useful to have the 2 ovens....See MoreQuick help with matching colors and "busy-ness" of counters/backsplash
Comments (11)I recently refreshed my oak kitchen with new countertops, backsplash and farm sink. https://www.houzz.com/photos/my-pics-work-in-progress-phvw-vp~93784356 There are more pics in my "my pics" idea book, and I also have a "wood kitchens" idea book which also has some refreshed older kitchens. This Houzz post contains a wood kitchen that did a white or cream arabesque with a contrasting grout - it looks better than I would have thought. In general, I find a simple backsplash works best with wood, but this works: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/im-painting-my-golden-oak-island-should-i-go-robin-egg-blue-dsvw-vd~4690219 Warm wood tones and cool grays do not play well together - neither does anything for the other. The grays were formulated with the white are very dark wood cabinets in mind. Cream, creamy beige, blue or green look best with warm wood. The blues and greens can have gray undertones. Small amounts of gray are OK. Here is a pretty kitchen with black countertop and simple cream backsplash: If you have not already replaced the microwave, consider a stainless hood as you have a large kitchen with lots of counter space or other places for a microwave....See MoreUpdating 90s yellow granite kitchen
Comments (15)I would paint the walls ivory, replace the backsplash with ivory subway tile, and touch up the cabinets. That granite will look fine and far more neutral. You might switch out your lighting for a cooler color and knock down the yellow a bit that way. I also think maybe the reddish bar stools are making the yellow more noticeable, at least in that first picture. I might actually paint them cream, too. Or it might just be the light. Please post your updates! Good luck....See MoreFilipe Custom Woodwork
