Eames lounger

I want to buy a Herman Miller Eames chair and ottoman. Is there a quality difference between the older ones and newer ones? What are the pros and cons of buy old or new?

I purchased two Eames kounge chairs with ottomans in January, 2019 from Modteriors They arribed within a couple of weeks. My husband and a friend who have assembled a multitude of "put it together furniture" spent several hours on one chair but were unable to put the arms together. The drilled holes just didn't match up. They did get it put togther enough for us to realize that the chair just simply wasn't a good fit for us. Too low to the ground and difficult to get in and out of. Since we had opened all the boxes (mistake), we had to repackage them in order to ship they back. We made every effort to make sure each piece was protected by foam, etc. The cost to ship back by FEDEX was o ver $400. Modteriors informed us that the shipment was damaged and nothing was salvageable and we would have to file a claim with FEDEX. They sent us pictures of the punctured boxes and a few photos of damage inside. You guessed it. FEDEX denied our claim because we did not pack it exactly as we had received it. Cost of this little mistake was over $2500. Were any of the items salvageable? Who knows. Modterior is in New York and we live in California. Was the upgraded leather ripped to shreds and totally ruined. I think not. A hard lesson to learn. In retrospect I would have tried to put them together or tried to sell them at a discounted price to recover some of my money. Modterior was very polite and responsive to my questions, etc. Having said that, I would never buy anything from them again.

OMG!!!!! Ideagirl, that is THE most over the top, well crafted kitsch I've ever seen!!! I love the bridge!! Absolutely to the eclectic decor, as in you'd need to dilute it. I think it would be great with some angular, chromed out MCMly rigid leather slings and outrageous arrows. John said, What I really want to do is, furnish my living room and foyer like a cocktail lounge / jazz club. Club chairs in twos and threes, around small round tables, with shaded lights and deep shadows, Dusty Springfield on the hi-fi, and well-trained mute children serving drinks. I'm tired of the couch and armchairs around the fireplace thing. I totally get that! I think I went to college with Marcolo's West Coast counterpart. Have to say, however, that the current living room furniture in the picture goes rather perfectly with the elephant columns and craftsman built-ins. I know many people who try to achieve that kind of look in similar houses and get the proportions all wrong and it doesn't work. Yours does. Children who make airplanes and death stars are more interesting than mute serving shrimps too. :) Eames chairs are pretty uncomfortable too. How about adding in exquisite pieces as you find them, on the basis of their artistic contribution to the house, and redo the rest when you have them all collected? By then, the noisy, messy children will be grown up and away, so you can have your perfect lounge in between visits from the grandchildren.

Living Room Furniture Layout - Please help!

We are about to begin a remodel in which we'll be removing several walls and I couldn't be more excited ... until I realized I have to figure out how to lay out furniture in a large, wide-open, and unusually shaped room! The only furniture we currently have to go into the space is an Eames lounger & ottoman and a mid-century Baldwin spinet piano - so plan to acquire the right furniture for the space. The ceilings are high - peaking at the 'bend' in the middle of the house at 16' & there are trapezoid windows on either side of the peak, over the patio doors (which face south and a provide nice view.) We do not want the space crowded, but want to have a good environment for entertaining.

Very nice. I love your gutsy color choices. The only thing I would change is the lamp on the sideboard to the right of the fireplace. I think it needs to be taller. It looks a little squat. I like to see a lamp that comes about 1/3 the way up the window.

yes, i would agree with a slightly lower side table, i also think that you should bring it closer to the eames and bring the couch out a little more to sort of corner them. I agree with your thoughts on the benches as opposed to the ft stools individual. let me throw a few out? i thought the wood might look a little better. if you decide to play wiht the rug, curtains or even better the pillows, let me know.
