Mimi: Seems like you haven't gotten many responses here - people are probably busy for the holidays. My $.02...I think the fabric has an updated feel, but not totally contemporary, so it works for me. I like the fabric a lot, my only concern is it against the Flower Pot walls. I love that Flower Pot color, but on my monitor there doesn't seem to be any red in the fabric, just a brown color. I would be concerned about the red not tying in or having to pull the red in elsewhere. But not sure if the monitor is correct. I happened to see an episode of Find Your Style on HGTV this afternoon. In the final room, they ended up with yellow walls, had brown leather chairs and also used blue. Below is a link. @littlebug - I appricate your feedback, since I am open to others ideas. What color would you suggest? I do like the Scandinavian style, so I might be going with a lighter floor. Here are a couple of examples of brown furniture with gray walls, I find the look harmonious and pretty!

I think sometimes gray, or cool, can help tone down a lot of traditional browns, but like others said, the spectrum is huge so pictures would help. My mom has a huge set of high quality library bookcases and entertainment furniture straight out of the 80’s and 90’s. She wanted to use them in her basement when they built their new house. They chose a light gray and the undertones seem to highlight the warmth in the oak without screaming “yellow oak.” It’s really like magic, it all looks updated and much more balanced. I think a warm color would have looked awful in her case, it would be suffocating. It did help that they were able to plan lighting at the same time, and the tile she used in the kitchenette is a fantastic blend of warm and cool. It turned out so well, she kept a high end tan/gold/camel pull-out sofa she was planning to replace! She found a rug and pillows that were more neutral and cool and the sofa looks almost like a color focal point now.
