Help with dying kentia palm

I would love some help with my dying kentia palm! I have a young palm at my office that seems to have completley dried out over the course of 5 days. I applied a coating of neem oil to the leaves on Wednesday and due to inclement weather was unable to get back to the office until the following week. Come Monday morning I see the entire plant has dried up. Not brown leaves but like a completely dehydrated plant. It probably needed a little water last week but I thought better not to over water in the winter, let the top layer of soil dry out. Was it the neem oil, lack of sun from several overcast snowy days, lack of water? I would have thought the application of the oil should have protected it from drying out. Is there anything I can do to revive my plant? I would greatly appreciate advice!

Sounds like it was killed from too much love. The Neem oil caused a bad reaction by these slow growing palms. Whats not dead might recover if you were able to get it to a greenhouse,but I get that its an office plant and chances are ...not good.

When you are sure the fronds are dead,cut them off and do your best to keep it watered properly and with brightest light- but not direct window sun.

Palms as indoor plants are a hard grow for most so don't feel bad.

I have no problems with palms indoors and I am in New Jersey.

Kentia is NOT a difficult palm. Have never had the need for applying neem oil but that must have done the damage.

Please help me with this! I got a Kentia Palm about two and a half months ago from Home Depot. It is about 6 feet tall and came in a 5 gallon bucket which it is still in. Every since I have had it, all of the smaller outer leaves have been slowly turning brown and drying up. I water it as soon as the soil gets dry, and it is in the middle of a room that has a bunch of windows but it is not in direct sunshine. How much water does it need? (oz's) Does it need any direct sunlight? Because it is so tall, the very top leaves are barely grazed by the air from the heating vent, but that doesn't seem to be significant enough to effect it in this way. All the browning leaves are at the bottom of the plant. The leaves are not browning from the tips, but more so overall just slowly turning brown-green then to completely brown. Attached are a couple of pictures. PLEASE HELP! I got this as a very special birthday present, it is a center piece in my living room, and I love this plant very much and want to have it healthy for a long time! Thank you very much :)

WATER AND MORE WATER! They should have been kept soaking wet from the day they were planted. It wouldn't stop some sunburn- but would have mitigated the damage. For the Howeas its going to be a slow recovery- years. The King palms are much faster..but the browned trunk worries me. That's a deep burn. I know it sounds like you watered often enough...but probably not enough or deep enough. A watering ring around those palms filled when watered and then re filled would help. You might as well cut off the dead fronds and start from there. Those are some of the best palms to grow..but the start can sometimes get off on the wrong foot in a hot summer. You might be happier to add more palms alongside now that temps will be going down so you have something nice to look at for now. It would be worth it instead of getting all frustrated waiting for those to recover. Best luck!

Hi all, thanks for your replies. The first few days I placed it near a sunny window which gets morning sun, not sure how many hours though. I feared sunburn so I moved it to another place in the living room where it doesn't get any direct sunlight. I'm starting to suspect it has something to do with humidity as pointed by stanofh. It has been a couple of warm days here in Portugal and humidity by the window probably drops to desert levels. I'll try to spray it with some water to create some mist. Do you feel I should move it again close to the window? In the store it was placed outdoors on a quite shady place, so probably better keeping it in the shade? thank you!

Your tree is not dying. It's probably just adapting to changes in lighting, humidity levels, etc. Think about all of the transitions this tree has gone through in the last several weeks - from near-perfect, greenhouse conditions, to shipping in a truck, to being put into Home Depot's plant section, then driven home to your house. Plants are living, breathing organisms and they react to changes in the environment. Any new growth will be adapted to it's new environment (your home).

I have my palm by a humidifier most of the day now. I'll pass along anything that works if I happen to get it resurrected!

I applied the neem oil because a palm at home had a small scale infestation so I just thought why not apply it to all the palms as precautionary. The one at my office is the only one that reacted that way.

I'm new to keeping plants alive, just recently killed a couple succulents, apparently still much to learn.
