is there something different about this can light? Or does it it have a cover/diffuser? Normal can lights you just turn off the light, make sure the bulb isnt hot, then unscrew the bulb and screw in the new one. If you prefer you can turn off the circuit breaker before you start.

Pretty good bet that those brass deals on top are thumbnuts on studs that stick up through holes in the top. Give 'em a good twist with vise grips. Either they'll come free, or the studs will snap off, giving you a good excuse to buy a new fixture. If you do get them off, before reassembling the fixture, go to your nearest auto parts store and buy a tube of anti-seize compound. That works much better than any kind of oil. Apply a light smear to the threads before you reassemble, and you won't have this problem next time. And by the way, I wish LED bulbs would end replacement problems, but the ones I buy seldom make their rated 20,000 to 50,000 hours of life. In 2015, I put a Cree in my post light, which is on a photocell. It didn't even last a year. Went back to compact fluorescent and it's been shining every night for over 3 years now. Your mileage may vary.
